Incredible and Easy Salmon Burgers Recipe
If you love salmon, but are looking for something different than the usual fillet baked whole with lemon slices, put these salmon burgers on your weekly menu. They’re so good! Finely diced fresh salmon is combined with scallions, lemon juice, horseradish, and seasonings, then topped with tzatziki sauce and perfectly served on a toasted brioche bun.
Unlike most salmon burgers where the fish is mashed or ground, these fillets are finely minced into tiny pieces. Egg and breadcrumbs hold the mixture together and create a great, tender texture. The burgers are broiled, which creates a yummy brown crust without added fat.
Ingredients Needed
Here’s what you’ll need to make this salmon burgers recipe:
(Scroll to the bottom for our easy printable recipe with the complete measurements and directions.)
- Salmon – Fresh skinless salmon fillets, not canned.
- Breadcrumbs – Plain dried breadcrumbs.
- Egg – This is necessary to help bind the mixture together.
- Horseradish sauce – We love a little horseradish mixed in. It has a spicy flavor with a hint of mustard aroma.
- Lemon juice – For a bright, citrus flavor.
- Scallions – These green onions have a subtle peppery flavor.
- Seasonings – Just simple salt and pepper.
- Tzatziki sauce – A simple condiment made from yogurt, cucumber, and mint. So refreshing, cool, and easy, it’s a perfect match for these burgers.
- Baby arugula – We prefer arugula over lettuce for these salmon burgers, which has a nice peppery flavor.
- Brioche buns – This type of bread is soft and buttery with a moist crumb. It pairs nicely with the delicate salmon.
How to Make Salmon Burgers
These burgers are so incredibly easy to make and loaded with flavor. Here’s how to make them in a few simple steps.
(Scroll to the bottom for our easy printable recipe with the complete measurements and directions.)
- Slice salmon. Slice the salmon into very tiny cubes (about 1/8-1/4 inch.)
- Combine ingredients. Whisk together the horseradish, lemon juice, egg, scallions, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. Gently fold in the salmon.
- Form the burgers. Form salmon mixture into 4 equal portions, about 3 1/2 inches round and 1 inch thick. Place on a rimmed baking sheet that’s coated with nonstick cooking spray.
- Broil. Heat broiler with rack set 4 inches from heat. Broil, without turning, until golden on top and opaque throughout, 6-7 minutes. (Watch them carefully so they don’t burn.)
- Serve. Slather toasted buns with some Tzatziki sauce and top with arugula and a salmon burger.
How to Tell When Salmon is Done Cooking
Salmon cook times are approximate because they will vary based on how hot your broiler gets, how thick the salmon fillets are, and desired degree of doneness. Salmon is done when it easily flakes with a fork. The USDA safe temperature is 145.
What to Serve with Salmon Burgers
We love these salmon burgers served on toasted brioche buns that are slathered with our homemade tzatziki sauce and topped with peppery arugula. All the flavors and textures are amazing. You can also serve them with a light and refreshing creamy cucumber salad, French fries or sweet potato fries. These burgers taste like restaurant quality, but they’re on the table in less than 30 minutes.
Storing Leftovers
- Store: Allow any leftover burgers to cool completely, then store them in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator. They will keep up to 2 days.
- Freeze: Store in an airtight freezer-safe container lined with parchment paper. It will keep in the freezer for 2 months.
- Reheat: Low and slow is best for reheating leftover salmon, so it doesn’t dry out. We recommend placing the fillets on a rimmed baking sheet, give it a splash of water and loosely tent with foil. Warm in the oven for about 15 minutes at 275 degrees F, or until the salmon reaches an internal temperature of 130 F. You can also gently reheat in the microwave just until warmed through. Instead of reheating, also consider adding cold salmon to salads instead – delish!

YUMMY!! Was looking for a different way to cook salmon and found this on Pinterest. So glad I did – they are awesome!
Wow. These were excellent. My husband doesn’t really like salmon but he ate every last bite AND asked me to make them again.
My family loved these! The yogurt sauce is perfect. I added some curry powder to my mix.
This was a huge hit with the entire family! 6 & 2 year old ate it up as did the mom. We also sprinkled the adult burgers with fresh chopped jalepeno’s.
