What’s in This Halloween Cake Recipe?
This Halloween cake recipe is made with just 6 ingredients, plus water.
(Scroll down to the recipe card below for measurements.)
- Fudge Marble Cake – I use Duncan Hines, but the brand doesn’t matter. Follow the package directions for baking your boxed cake.
- Eggs – Provides structure to the batter.
- Club soda – This replaces the water in the batter and helps the cake be nice and fluffy, but you can use water instead, if you prefer.
- Vegetable oil – Makes the cake nice and moist.
- Orange Jello – This cake calls for a big 6 ounce box.
- Water – You’ll need boiling water and cold water for the jello.
- Chocolate frosting – For ease, you can use a store-bought container of whipped chocolate frosting. If you have more time, I highly recommend my homemade chocolate frosting. It’s super easy to make.
Tips and Variations
This chocolate poke cake is versatile, too if you have trouble finding the ingredients or want to make it for a different holiday.
- Cut back on the sugar. This is a dessert cake, but if you need to cut back on the amount of sugar, you can use sugar-free orange jello.
- Swap out the orange jello for a different flavor. Lime or purple jello for slime or red for blood are fun!
- Can’t find marbled cake mix? Use yellow or white cake mix instead and add in a little cocoa powder to half of it.
- Add some toppings. If you don’t like the plain look of chocolate frosting, you can top it with some candy corns or Halloween colored sprinkles.
Serving Suggestions
You can slice this cake into whatever size pieces you need to, depending on how many guests you’ll be serving. To make your Halloween party complete, serve it with more Halloween treats like our Halloween Bloodshot Eyeballs Candy, Ghost Meringue Cookies, Witches Brooms, and fizzy Witches Brew Punch!
Proper Storage
- Fridge. Store any leftovers in a tightly sealed container. It will keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Freezer. For longer storage, you can store it in the freezer in a tightly sealed freezer-safe container for up to a month. Thaw it in the fridge overnight before serving.
