These Apple Monster Mouths are my favorite kind of healthier snack for kids – easy, delicious, and it makes eating fruit fun. Not that most kids need an incentive to eat fruit, but still.

When my kids were little, I knew I had a hit on my hands when I served something and they’d ask for it again the next day. Made with sliced apples, peanut butter, and mini marshmallows, they loved these – and still do as teenagers.

What’s in This Apple Monster Mouths Recipe?

All you need is 3 ingredients for the apple mouths and a few items for the optional fruit dip. (Scroll down for measurements and complete printable recipe.)

For the Apple Mouths

  • Apple – You can use any apples you want. I like red delicious or honeycrisp for Halloween colors.
  • Peanut butter – Creamy peanut butter acts as the “glue” that adheres the mini marshmallows to the apples. You can also use almond, cashew, or sunflower butter.
  • Mini marshmallows – These are the teeth!

For the Fruit Dip

  • Yogurt – Orange creme yogurt, such as Yoplait.
  • Marshmallow creme
  • Cream cheese – Full fat or reduced fat can be used. It should be softened at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • Vanilla extract – Just a touch for added flavor.
  • Edible candy eyes – This is completely optional, but a fun addition for Halloween!

Serving Suggestions

The apple mouths are best served right away while the apples are crisp and fresh, but leftovers can be stored for later, if necessary (see below.) We love dunking them in the fruit dip, but that is optional. If you’re serving these for a Halloween party, pair them with 5-Layer Spiderweb Dip, Halloween Poke CakeMonster Munch, and fizzy Witches Brew Punch!

Storing Leftovers

Any leftover apple mouths can be tightly wrapped and stored in the fridge for a few days, keeping in mind that the apples will begin to brown and the marshmallows will soften up even more. Store any leftover fruit dip in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Give it a good stir before serving again.

I know that Halloween has now passed but these are still super cute for little kids! I made a batch for my nieces (who LOVE anything with marshmallows) and they gobbled them up! Thanks for such a cute idea!

This is so fun! I think Halloween is seriously the best holiday for fun foods. I made these first with natural peanut butter and I don’t recommend. There’s just too much oil. The second time I used Skippy. My kids loved them, of course!

Well, hey! Forget the apples and just spoon in the dip for yourself. There could be a plus side to this tooth/mouth surgery. I thought for sure I would lose my last five pounds with the surgery, but I think I gained five pounds instead, which seems totally unfair. I mean, you get cancer and gain weight? {Shakes fist in air}. Seriously, I hope you are doing ok. Hang in there….xoxo
