Easy Halloween Brownies

Halloween is so much fun – I just love all the costumes, decorations, and of course fun treats. But this is the one holiday where I prefer the food to be super easy, so that my kids could help me when they were little.

Some of our favorite easy Halloween recipes include these Candy Corn Pretzel Bark and Monster Munch.

We also love these Halloween Brownies. They’re delicious on their own, but with an orange marbled effect for the holiday. You definitely don’t need any special equipment or talent to make them.

How To Make Halloween Brownies

Using store-bought products, these brownies are super simple. Feel free to use homemade brownies, if you prefer (see note below.) Here’s a quick summary:
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  1. Grease a 13×9 inch pan.
  2. Beat cream cheese filling ingredients until smooth.
  3. Whisk together brownie ingredients until well blended.
  4. Spread 3/4 of the brownie batter in the pan. Spoon the filling by spoonfuls evenly on top of the brownie batter.
  5. Spoon remaining brownie batter over filling. Pull knife through the batter and filling in wide curves for marbled effect.
  6. Bake and cool completely, then cover and refrigerate for a few hours.
  7. Cut into squares and enjoy!

That’s it! You’ve got yourself a Halloween brownie that tastes great and looks fun!

Recipe Notes

  • Use a from scratch brownie recipe. If you want to take this recipe up a notch, I highly recommend using the cream cheese filling with my homemade brownie recipe instead. But there is no shame in using a boxed mix!
  • Food dye. I used McCormick Assorted Food Color drops for the red and yellow dye. Depending on how large your drops are, or if you use a different brand, you may need less or more than what I used for this recipe. McCormick’s food coloring is potent.
  • Don’t freak when you see pink! When you blend the cream cheese with the food coloring it might appear somewhat pink. Don’t worry – it turns orange as it bakes.

Proper Storage

These brownies will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days in an airtight container. They’re best served chilled.

Oh, sure, in the true spirit of Halloween you leave Paul home with the cake, and you take Haley out to collect sugar and trans-fats! I guess that pretty much covers the scary part.
