What are Croffles?
A Croffle is a unique treat with a distinctive mix of croissants and waffles. They’re simply made by cooking crescent roll dough in a waffle iron, so they’re crispy on the outside like waffles, but inside, they’re soft and flaky like croissants. You can enjoy them sweet or savory, with toppings like fruit, syrup, eggs, or bacon.

Ingredients Needed
You only need 3 ingredients to make this croffle recipe, plus optional toppings.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Raw sugar – We like the textural crunch of raw sugar. See alternative below.
- Cinnamon – This mixed with sugar is the best warm and sweet flavor combination for pastries!
- Crescent roll dough – The tube found in the refrigerated section. I always use Pillsbury.
- Toppings – Pure maple syrup, whipped cream, and/or fresh fruit.
Recipe Variations
- Use regular sugar. Granulated sugar can be used instead of raw sugar, keeping in mind that the exterior might have a different consistency.
- Try a different spice. Apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice can replace the cinnamon for a different flavor.
- Swap with puff pastry. Puff pastry can be used instead of crescent dough. If you want to still achieve that classic croissant shape, remember to cut into triangles first.
- Stuff them! For a quick and easy holiday breakfast, stuff the croffles with filling before pressing them on the waffle iron. Some suggested fillings include bananas and Nutella, cream cheese and berries, or savory options such as brie, prosciutto, and jam.

How to Make Croffles
Croffles could not be easier to make in just a couple steps.

- Make the coating. Mix together the sugar and cinnamon.
- Separate the crescent rolls. Unroll your crescent roll dough and carefully separate the triangles along the perforated lines.
- Form into a croissant shape. Roll your triangles from the larger end to the tip until the crescent is completed; do this for all eight pieces.
- Warm a waffle iron. Warm up your waffle iron to medium heat, according to the manufacturer’s directions, then spray with nonstick spray.
- Cook the croffles. Set 2-4 crescent rolls inside your waffle iron (depending on the size of your waffle iron), and close with the lid. The croffles will spread slightly, so give them a little space to expand. Cook until the outside is medium brown, about 2-3 minutes for most models. Repeat with the remaining rolls.
- Enjoy. Serve warm with maple syrup, whipped cream, and fresh fruit, if desired.

Serving Suggestions
Croffles are best enjoyed fresh right after their made while they’re warm and crispy.
Enjoy croffles just as you would waffles or pancakes, with a dusting of powdered sugar, a pat of butter, or a drizzle of maple syrup. We also love them with fresh fruit. If you want to serve them for dessert, top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, caramel sauce, and chocolate sauce!
Proper Storage
- Fridge. As mentioned, croffles are best enjoyed fresh right off the waffle iron, but they will be keep in the refrigerator, tightly wrapped, for 2-3 days if necessary.
- Reheat. They can be reheated in the microwave in 10-second increments until heated through, although keep in mind they won’t be crisp. Or pop them in the toaster oven for a minute or two.
- Freeze. To freeze Croffles, you can place them in a freezer-safe container or bag for 1 to 3 months. However, consuming them within the first month of freezing is recommended for the best quality.
