Easy Baked Brie with Jam
You can’t go wrong with this baked brie with jam if you’re looking for an appetizer that’s elegant yet easy!
It’s so simple and quick and can be served right from the skillet it bakes in with some crostini and crackers for dipping. A perfect appetizer for Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and any other occasion.
I love the flavor combination of fig jam and brie as seen in my jam and brie phyllo bites so I took notes from that recipe and used my homemade fig jam to top this wheel of baked brie. But this appetizer works great with apricot jam, too.

Ingredients Needed
This baked brie recipe is made with just a handful of ingredients.
(Don’t miss the recipe card below for details and measurements.)
- Fig jam – We love our homemade fig jam recipe, but you can certainly buy it to save on time. If you don’t like figs, apricot jam is a great alternate.
- Toasted walnuts – Pecans can also be swapped for the walnuts, if preferred.
- Fresh thyme – Dried thyme can be used instead of fresh, if needed. You’ll only need 1/4 teaspoon if using dried.
- Orange zest – Optional but adds a lovely amount of citrus that pairs well with the sweet jam.
- Coarse salt – Helps to balance out the flavors.
- Brie cheese – Be sure to use round wheels of brie, not triangle/wedge or sliced brie. Brie doesn’t keep as long as other cheeses, so pay attention to the expiration date.

- Prepare the brie. Place the brie wheel in a small cast iron skillet. Cut criss cross slits through the top of the rind.
- Add the jam. Microwave the jam for about 15 seconds just to loosen. Stir in the nuts, thyme, orange zest, and salt. Spread over the brie wheel top.
- Bake. Bake at 350F on the middle rack of the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Gently press on the brie with the back of a spoon to see if it has melted on the inside.
- Enjoy. Let sit for a few minutes then enjoy.
Tips & Variations
Here are a few tips and variations for this baked brie with jam recipe.
- Prevent a messy oven. Place the cast iron skillet (or baking dish) on top of a cookie sheet while baking, which will catch any potential oozing cheese or loose toppings.
- Do not remove the cheese rind. It’s best to keep the brie rind (skin) on for this recipe, which is perfectly edible and it holds everything well together.
- Don’t overcook the brie. I recommend not baking it any longer than 15 minutes or else it’ll get soupy.
- Serving a larger crowd? Simply use a 16 ounce brie wheel and double all the other ingredients.
- Try it with other cheese. If for some reason you can’t find brie, this recipe also works with a wheel of camembert, Coulommiers, or Reblochon cheese.

What to Serve with Baked Brie
Enjoy your baked brie with jam warm from the oven, after letting it sit for 5 minutes or so. Be sure not to wait too long, as it will harden again as it cools.
Serve your baked brie with slices of crusty bread, crostini, or crackers. Be sure to use sturdy crackers, not super thin ones that will break easily. You can also add fruit, like apple slices and grapes, to the serving platter.
Proper Storage
- Fridge. Baked brie is best when enjoyed immediately but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Reheat. Brie can be reheated in the microwave. Note that it does melt quickly, so you’ll likely need to heat it for just 20 to 60 seconds or so, depending on the amount you are reheating.

- 1/4 cup finely chopped toasted walnuts
- 1 small sprig fresh thyme , finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
- pinch of coarse salt
- 8 ounce round wheel Brie cheese
- crackers and sliced baguette , for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Place the brie wheel in a small cast iron skillet (or oven-safe dish) just a bit bigger than the brie itself, and then place the skillet on top of a baking sheet (just to catch any possible oozing cheese.) Cut criss-cross slits just through the top of the rind.
- Put the fig jam in a small microwave safe bowl and warm in the microwave just to loosen, about 15 seconds. Stir in the chopped nuts, chopped thyme, orange zest, and a pinch of salt.
- Pour/spread the fig-nut mixture over the brie, making sure the top is fully covered.
- Bake on the middle rack of the pre-heated oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until the brie becomes melted. (TIP: press gently with the back of a spoon to see if the cheese has melted on the inside.)
- Remove from the oven and let the brie sit for 3 to 5 minutes. Serve warm with bread, crostini, or crackers!
