Easy Baked Brie with Jam
I can never go wrong serving this baked brie with jam. It’s simple yet elegant enough to serve a crowd. If there’s an easy and tasty appetizer I can make for the holidays, this is it.
Simple and quick, I like to serve it right from the skillet it bakes in, along with crostini and crackers for dipping. It really is the ideal appetizer for Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and any other occasion.
I love the flavor combination of fig jam and brie, just like in my jam and brie phyllo bites, so I took notes from that recipe and used my homemade jam to top this wheel of baked brie. I’ve also served this appetizer with apricot jam, so don’t worry if you don’t have any fig jam on hand.
Helpful Tips
- Check the expiration date. Brie doesn’t keep as long as other cheeses, so pay attention to the expiration date.
- Prevent a messy oven. Place the cast iron skillet (or baking dish) on top of a cookie sheet while baking, which will catch any potential oozing cheese or loose toppings.
- Do not remove the rind. It’s best to keep the brie rind (skin) on for this recipe, which is perfectly edible, and it holds everything well together.
- Don’t overcook. I recommend not baking it any longer than 15 minutes or else it’ll get soupy.
- For a large crowd. Use a 16-ounce brie wheel and double all the other ingredients.
- Try another cheese. If, for some reason, you can’t find brie, this recipe also works with a wheel of camembert, Coulommiers, or Reblochon cheese.
Baked Brie with Jam

- ยผ cup fig jam
- ยผ cup finely chopped toasted walnuts, pecans also work
- 1 small sprig fresh thyme, finely chopped, for dried use ยผ tsp
- 1 tsp orange zest, optional but recommended
- pinch coarse salt
- crackers and sliced baguette, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF.
- Place the brie wheel in a small cast iron skillet (or oven-safe dish) just a bit bigger than the brie itself, and then place the skillet on top of a baking sheet (just to catch any possible oozing cheese.) Cut criss-cross slits just through the top of the rind.
- Put the fig jam in a small microwave safe bowl and warm in the microwave just to loosen, about 15 seconds. Stir in the chopped nuts, chopped thyme, orange zest, and a pinch of salt.
- Pour/spread the fig-nut mixture over the brie, making sure the top is fully covered.
- Bake on the middle rack of the pre-heated oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until the brie becomes melted. (TIP: press gently with the back of a spoon to see if the cheese has melted on the inside.)
- Remove from the oven and let the brie sit for 3 to 5 minutes. Serve warm with bread, crostini, or crackers!

How to Make Baked Brie with Jam Step by Step
Get the oven going: Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF.
Prepare the brie: Place an 8 oz. wheel of brie in a cast-iron skillet that’s slightly bigger than the brie. Cut criss-cross slits through the top of the rind.
Add the jam: Microwave ยผย cup of jam for about 15 seconds to thin it out. Stir in ยผ cup nuts, 1 sprig fresh thyme, 1 tsp orange zest, and a pinch of salt. Spread this jam mixture over the top of the brie.
Bake: Bake at 350ยฐF on the middle rack of the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. To see if it is ready, gently press on it with the back of a spoon to see if it has melted on the inside.

Enjoy: Let the cheese sit for a few minutes, then enjoy.
What to Serve with Baked Brie
Enjoy your baked brie with jam warm from the oven, after letting it sit for 5 minutes or so. Be sure not to wait too long, as it will harden again as it cools.
I like to serve the baked brie with crusty slices of Dutch oven bread, a savory olive bread, or even focaccia. Crostini, crackers, or pita work well, too. Be sure to use sturdy crackers, not super-thin ones that will break easily, as the cheese is heavy.
I also like adding this baked brie to my snack platter along with nuts, fruit, bread, crackers, and a few pieces of chocolate.

How to Store
Baked brie is best when enjoyed immediately but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Brie can be reheated in the microwave. Note that it does melt quickly, so you’ll likely need to heat it for just 20 to 60 seconds or so, depending on the amount you are reheating.
