Grab some extra pita at the store and make air fryer breakfast pizza, too!
Quick & Easy Pita Pizza
This air fryer margherita pita pizza is a quick & easy twist on my classic Margherita Pizza, made on pita bread instead of pizza dough and cooked in the air fryer. It’s made with all the same classic flavors – fresh mozzarella and tomatoes, marinara, garlic, and basil – but there’s no need to fuss with pizza dough.
Pita doesn’t have the same exact texture or flavor as pizza dough, of course, but it’s pretty similar and when you can whip up a pizza in less than 10 minutes, I’d say it’s worth the trade off.
And, of course, if margherita pizzas aren’t your favorite – maybe you prefer a plain cheese pizza or pepperoni – you can easily customize these air fryer pizzas with whatever toppings you desire.
Why You’ll Love This Air Fryer Pizza
These pita pizzas have become a family favorite. Here are a few reasons why:
- Quick and easy. Including assembly, it takes less than 10 minutes to prepare one of these air fryer pizzas.
- Customizable. While I stuck with classic margherita toppings, feel free to add whatever toppings you’d like to customize this recipe. I’ve provided some inspiration below.
- The perfect size. Each pizza is the perfect size for a light meal. We love whipping these up for lunch.
Ingredients Needed
These easy air fryer pizzas are made with classic margherita pizza ingredients, like fresh mozzarella and roma tomatoes.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Pita rounds – Each pita round is the perfect size for a personal pizza.
- Olive oil – Spread on the pita to help it turn golden in the air fryer.
- Marinara sauce – You can grab some at the store or use my homemade marinara sauce.
- Garlic – Minced garlic adds a pop of flavor to the pizza.
- Mozzarella cheese – Fresh ball mozzarella is a traditional cheese used for Margherita pizza.
- Roma tomatoes – I used small roma tomatoes because they’re juicy, flavorful, and the perfect size.
- Basil leaves – Roll tightly and slice into ribbons to sprinkle over the pizza.
- Parmesan cheese – Freshly shaved parmesan makes all the difference in taste, skip the jarred stuff.
- Black pepper & red pepper flakes – The red pepper flakes are optional but add a nice kick to the end.
Pita Pizza Variations
The great thing about air fryer pita pizzas is that you can make them with literally any toppings you want. While margherita is a classic, you can easily make Hawaiian pizza, BBQ chicken pizza, or chicken alfredo pizza on pita rounds. The key is to make sure you’re not adding TOO much to the pita, as it can weigh down the pizza and cause it to get soggy instead of crispy in the air fryer.
For some pizza night fun, you can lay out a handful of different toppings and let everyone build their own air fryer pita pizza – it’s fun and easy, since the air fryer pizzas take just a few minutes to prepare.
How to Make Air Fryer Margherita Pita Pizza
Here’s how to make a Margherita pizza in the air fryer, in just a few easy steps.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Assemble the pizza. Brush the olive oil onto the pita bread then spread the marinara, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Sprinkle the minced garlic over the top, then add the mozzarella slices and tomatoes. Be sure to leave some gaps in between.
- Cook each pita pizza. Transfer the first pita to the air fryer basket. Cook at 380F for 4-5 minutes, until the cheese is melted and golden.
- Add the garnishes. Out of the air fryer, immediately sprinkle the pizza with basil and parmesan shavings, along with black pepper and crushed red pepper flakes.
- Repeat. Repeat with the remaining pizzas.
Tips for Success
Here are a few helpful tips for making air fryer pita pizzas.
- Don’t overload the pita. Be careful not to dump too much sauce on each pita round or load it up with too many toppings, as it can cause the center of the pita to be soggy instead of crispy.
- Adjust the time as necessary. Each air fryer is a bit different so you’ll want to keep an eye on your margherita pizza to ensure the pita round isn’t browning too much. These cook quickly – it takes just 4 to 5 minutes in my Cosori air fryer.
- Don’t crowd the air fryer. I can only cook one of these in my air fryer at a time and unless you have a super large one, that’s what I recommend for you as well. You want each pizza to have plenty of space.
What to Serve with Margherita Pizza
This air fryer margherita pizza makes a quick and easy lunch on its own. But if you want to turn it into a more filling meal, you can never go wrong with a side salad or caesar salad.
How to Store & Reheat Leftovers
Margherita pita pizzas are best enjoyed immediately but if you have leftovers you can:
- Fridge. Store any leftover pita pizzas in foil, plastic wrap, or a ziploc bag.
- Freezer. You can also freeze extra margherita pita pizzas by wrapping them in foil and then placing them in a freezer-safe plastic bag. Freeze for up to 3 months.
- Reheat. You can reheat margherita pita pizzas in the air fryer or in the microwave, keeping in mind that the microwave will not result in crispy pizza.

- Transfer 1 pita to the air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 380F until the cheese is melted and golden and the pita is crisp, 4 to 5 minutes (adjust time, if needed to prevent the pita from over-browning.)

- Repeat with the remaining 3 pita rounds.
- Cut into wedges and serve.
Pita pizza is so good. It reminds me of a thin crust pizza from Dominos. I put the pitas in the air fryer for a minute to kind of crisp it up before putting in the toppings. This seems to ensure that the pitas don’t get soggy from the sauce and other toppings. Love to make pineapple and green pepper pizza with pepper Jack cheese using pitas. A great WW alternative to a “real” pizza.
