If you’re intimidated to make pie, these Peach Hand Pies are a great recipe to try, because they’re super easy, plus they’re made in the air fryer so they take way less time to bake. What could be better than making little portable pies in about 15 minutes? Nothing!

Wrapped up in fantastic individual packages, hand pies are less mess, easier to serve (no utensils!), and you’re not tied to the table. They’re the perfect hand-held dessert for all your summer gatherings. You could even pass them out in cups with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a spoon.

Helpful Tips & Variations

  • Pie Crust. You can use our homemade pie crust (you’ll need 2) or buy a 14 ounce box refrigerated pie crusts to make this recipe even easier.
  • Use up the dough scraps. You can roll out any excess dough scraps and if there’s enough, form another hand pie.
  • Don’t overfill. Don’t overfill the pies or the seal can come undone.
  • Crimp the crust edges together. Make sure to securely crimp the pie crust edges together, so the filling doesn’t leak.
  • Cut vents. Make slits in the tops of each pie, so that steam from cooking can escape. Otherwise, the excess liquid turns the top crust soggy while causing the filling to get soupy.
  • Try a different fruit. Swap out the peaches for a different pie filling like apple, blueberry, or cherry!
  • Change the shape. This recipe has been tested using 5-inch rounds of pie crust, then folding them over the filling to form a half moon shape. (I would not recommend anything smaller than 3.5 inches in diameter because you can’t fit much filling in a pie that small.) However, feel free to shape into rectangles or circles by placing a piece of pie crust over the filling with another of equal size, if you prefer. You can add more filling this way, although you will end up with fewer hand pies. Also note the baking time might need to be adjusted slightly.

Air Fryer Peach Hand Pies

Prep: 8 minutes
Cook: 8 minutes
Total: 16 minutes
Servings: 6 hand pies
These easy Air Fryer Peach Hand Pies are a portable, delicious fun summer dessert with no slicing and little mess.

Ingredients

  • 14.1 ounce refrigerated package pie crust, (2 crusts) or double my homemade pie crust recipe
  • 1/2 can (21 ounce) peach pie filling, (or double the recipe and use the entire can)
  • 6 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 large egg + splash of water
  • water
  • 3 teaspoons turbinado sugar

Instructions

  • Remove pie crusts from packaging and allow to come to room temperature, per package instructions.
  • Cut the pie crusts into 5-inch circles using a cookie cutter.
  • Place two slices of peaches from the peach pie filling onto the pie crusts on the bottom half of the crust. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of brown sugar and a pinch of cinnamon over the filling.
  • With a little water on the tip of your finger, moisten the outside edges of the pie crust. Fold dough over filling to form half-moons; pinch the edges of the crust together, then crimp edges with a fork to seal.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg with a splash of water. Brush the pies with the egg wash all over the tops.
  • Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of the coarse turbinado sugar over each pie.
  • Make three slits in the crust on the top of the pies.
  • Preheat the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes. Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Place 3 pies in the basket at a time and air fry for about 8 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and filling is bubbling. Carefully remove and transfer to a wire rack to cool. Repeat with remaining pies. (If your air fryer basket is large, you can cook more than 3 at a time as long as they are not touching at all.)
  • Allow to cool a bit and enjoy!
OPTIONAL ICING: Whisk together 1 & 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 1 to 2 tablespoons milk, a splash of vanilla, and a pinch of salt to make a glaze (adding more powdered sugar or milk to get a thick, but drizzling consistency.) Once pies are completely cool, drizzle on top.

Notes

Bake in the oven instead. Follow the directions, but instead of placing them in an air fryer, simply place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake in a 400 degree F preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown and filling is bubbling. (Start checking halfway through to make sure they’re not browning too fast.) Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Can I bake hand pies in the oven instead?

These peach hand pies can absolutely be made in a standard oven instead of air fried.

Make Ahead / Storing Instructions

  • Store Baked and Cooled Hand Pies. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Or frozen for up to 2 months (Thaw in the refrigerator, then bring to room temperature before eating.)
  • Store Assembled and Unbaked Hand Pies. Store tightly covered and refrigerated up to 2 days ahead or tightly wrapped and frozen for up to 2 months. Frozen hand pies can go directly into the oven or air fryer (no need to thaw first), but they will require extra cooking time.

    Hi Amy!
Can I use fresh peaches instead of canned filling?
    Please let me know.
    Thank you!

Technically, yes. But they won’t soften up enough in the instructed bake time. You’d also need extra spices/sugars to add flavor to the hand pies.
