Ingredients Needed
These peach hand pies call for just a handful of simple ingredients.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Peach pie filling – You’ll need half a 21 ounce can (or double the recipe and use the entire thing.)
- Brown sugar – For sweetness and notes of molasses.
- Cinnamon – Adds a nice warm flavor.
- Pie Crust – You can use our homemade pie crust (you’ll need 2) or buy a 14 ounce box refrigerated pie crusts to make this recipe even easier.
- Egg and a splash of water – These get combined to make a wash that is brushed on the crust, so it gets nice and golden while being air fried.
- Turbinado sugar – Sprinkled on the crust at the end, Turbinado sugar gives the finished pies a fantastic textural crunch and extra sweetness.
- Icing (optional) – Powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and a pinch of salt make up a simple icing that’s drizzled on top.
Recipe Variations
- Try a different fruit. Swap out the peaches for a different pie filling like blueberry or cherry!
- Cover in icing. Instead of drizzling with a small amount of icing, make extra and coat the entire top of the baked pie with it.
- Change the shape. This recipe has been tested using 5-inch rounds of pie crust, then folding them over the filling to form a half moon shape. (I would not recommend anything smaller than 3.5 inches in diameter because you can’t fit much filling in a pie that small.) However, feel free to shape into rectangles or circles by placing a piece of pie crust over the filling with another of equal size, if you prefer. You can add more filling this way, although you will end up with fewer hand pies. Also note the baking time might need to be adjusted slightly.
How to Make Air Fryer Peach Hand Pies
The hand pies are super easy to make in just a few steps.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Cut the pie dough. Using a cookie cutter, cut the pie crusts into 5-inch circles.
- Fill the pies. Place two slices of peaches from the peach pie filling onto the pie crusts on the bottom half of the crust. Moisten the outside edges of the pie crust with a bit of water. Fold dough over filling to form half-moons; pinch the edges of the crust together, then crimp edges with a fork to seal.
- Prep the outside crust. Brush the pies with the egg wash all over the tops. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of the coarse sugar over each pie. Make three slits in the crust on the top of the pies.
- Preheat air fryer. Preheat the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes. Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray.
- Air Fry. Place 3 pies in the basket at a time and air fry for 8 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and filling is bubbling. Carefully remove and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with remaining pies.
Can I bake hand pies in the oven instead?
Tips for Success
- Use up the dough scraps. You can roll out any excess dough scraps and if there’s enough, form another hand pie.
- Don’t overfill. Don’t overfill the pies or the seal can come undone.
- Crimp the crust edges together. Make sure to securely crimp the pie crust edges together, so the filling doesn’t leak.
- Cut vents. Make slits in the tops of each pie, so that steam from cooking can escape. Otherwise, the excess liquid turns the top crust soggy while causing the filling to get soupy.
Make Ahead / Storing Instructions
You can serve these while they’re warm or room temperature. Or store them until you’re ready to serve.
- Store Baked and Cooled Hand Pies: store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Or frozen for up to 2 months (Thaw in the refrigerator, then bring to room temperature before eating.)
- Store Assembled and Unbaked Hand Pies: can be tightly covered and refrigerated up to 2 days ahead or tightly wrapped and frozen for up to 2 months. Frozen hand pies can go directly into the oven or air fryer (no need to thaw first), but they will require extra cooking time.
