These Grilled Hot Dog Kabobs turn basic hot dogs into a fun entree that’s loved by kids and adults alike. Onions, red and green bell peppers, and pineapple are skewered with hot dog pieces, then coated in a savory BBQ sauce. I love these for BBQs and picnics. It’s an upgrade on basic burgers and hot dogs, but still wildly easy and quick to make!

Kabobs are one of my favorite things to serve at summer BBQs. There’s just something fun about pieces of meat and veggies on a skewer, plus they’re easy to prepare and set out. Some of my favorites include pineapple chicken kabobs, Greek chicken kabobs, and these grilled hot dog kabobs. I have to say these have been a hit with the kids but also the adults. It’s such an easy way to elevate basic hot dogs and throw some veggies in the mix too.

Helpful Tips & Variations

  • Soak the skewers. It’s important to soak wooden or bamboo skewers for at least 20 minutes. Otherwise, they can easily catch fire on the grill.
  • 1-inch pieces. All of the veggies and the pineapple should be cut into roughly 1-inch pieces. This is big enough that the skewer can easily go through them without splitting them, but small enough that they cook in 8 to 10 minutes on the grill.
  • Use your favorite BBQ sauce. I love my homemade BBQ sauce on these kabobs, but Sweet Baby Ray’s or any other brand works too. For a different flavor, try bourbon BBQ sauce!
  • Customize the veggies. Feel free to use whatever veggies you have on hand for these skewers. To make them more kid-friendly, you can skip the onions or peppers as needed. Mushrooms and zucchini both work well on skewers.

What To Serve With Hot Dog Kabobs

These kabobs are perfect for a casual summer BBQ. I love to serve them with my favorite picnic sides, like coleslaw, macaroni salad, and baked beans. Waldorf salad and spaghetti salad would also be great options. And don’t forget dessert! I love these banana split dessert kabobs to keep with the theme!

How To Store Leftovers

  • Store. Hot dog kabobs are best enjoyed immediately. However, leftovers can be removed from the kabobs and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days.
  • Reheat. Reheat the hot dog and veggie pieces in the microwave or air fryer until hot.
