Because no coffee house created a drink revolving around Apple Pie Spice, there isn’t a crazy movement to incorporate it into everything under the sun like its cousin Pumpkin Pie Spice, but there’s no denying its awesomeness and usability, too. It’s a wonderful Fall contribution in pies, fudge, cookies, muffins, and pretty much any dessert with apples!

What is in Apple Pie Spice?

Apple Pie Spice ingredients can vary depending on the brand, but typically include ground cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and allspice. The combination delivers such a wonderful smell and flavor to so many foods.

How to Make Apple Pie Spice

Making your own homemade spice blend is so much cheaper than buying it, but also allows you to adjust the spice ratios and flavor the way you want it, and it’s so incredibly easy to do.

You simply whisk all of the ingredients together in a bowl until completely incorporated, then transfer to an airtight container so it stays fresh and aromatic. Alternatively, you can place all the spices directly in a jar, seal it, then shake until combined.

Ways To Use It

This spice blend is a must in apple pie filling, but is also delicious in an apple smoothie, mixed into waffle batter, and great addition to slow cooker applesauce. If you have a favorite apple dessert that calls for just cinnamon, try swapping it for some of this.

How much spice should I use? This will depend on the recipe you’re following. Many baked goods and desserts call for between 1/4 to 2 full teaspoons. I love this spice blend so much that I’ll often times use it in place of a recipe that just calls for cinnamon.

How Long Does it Keep?

Store this in a cool, dry place as you would any other spice and youโ€™ll have all the fall flavors within reach. It will last in an airtight container up to 6 months.
