An Easy + Irresistible Milkshake Recipe

Whether it’s my friends’ kids or a table of girls outside of the local market, I find myself completely unable to say no every year when someone asks if I want a box of Girl Scout cookies. Or three. Or five. And it’s that time again!

Lemonades and Somoa cookies are our weakness – it’s all too easy to polish off an entire sleeve right from the box in minutes. This year I thought it might be fun to put some somoa cookies to use in another way. Enter…Girl Scout cookie milkshakes! Girl Scout cookies + ice cream + milk + loads of toppings = what could be better?!

This Samoa milkshake is not only made with cookies blended in the ice cream but I also took the main flavors – chocolate, caramel, and toasted coconut – and added them as toppings. The end result is the perfect vanilla and caramel milkshake with hints of coconut. Yum!

Ingredients Needed

Only 6 ingredients are used to make this decadent, easy milkshake recipe.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  • Samoa cookies – Be sure to stock up during the next Girl Scout cookie sale!
  • Vanilla ice cream – Any type of vanilla ice cream that you prefer will work.
  • Milk – Whole, 2%, or skim all work. The more fat content, the richer and thicker the shake will be.
  • Caramel sauce – Blended into the milkshake as well as on the rim. We use our homemade caramel sauce.
  • Toasted coconut – See below for details on how to make your own toasted coconut.
  • Chocolate sauce – We use our homemade chocolate sauce but store-bought will work too.

Variations

There are different ways to switch up this caramel milkshake. Here are a few ideas:

  • Try a different flavor of ice cream. Feel free to get creative instead of just using plain vanilla ice cream. Experiment with any flavor you think might pair well with Samoa cookies.
  • Use other cookies. If you don’t have any Samoas on hand, you could try this recipe with thin mints for a minty chocolate Girl Scout cookie milkshake.
  • Make your own whipped cream. While store-bought whipped cream is fine, there’s just something about the texture and flavor of homemade whipped cream that will make this milkshake even better.

How to Toast Coconut

To make your own toasted coconut, spread it out on a pan and cook over medium heat. Stir frequently to prevent browning. It should take just 5 minutes until the flakes are golden brown. Remove from heat to cool before adding to the ice cream.

How to Make Samoa Cookies Milkshake

This caramel and vanilla milkshake with Girl Scout cookies is super easy to make. Just blend, add your favorite toppings, and enjoy.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  • Blend. Blend the Samoa cookies, ice cream, milk, and half of the caramel sauce until you get tiny pieces of cookies.
  • Add the caramel rim. Pour caramel sauce and toasted coconut onto small plates. Dip the rim of the glass into the caramel, then the toasted coconut.
  • Add the toppings. Pour the milkshake into your glass. Top with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, caramel, and toasted coconut.

How to Make a Thick Milkshake

While I think this vanilla milkshake is the perfect thickness – thin enough to drink through a straw but not too milky – it can easily be adjusted to your preference.

If you like thick milkshakes, you can reduce the amount of milk to only 1/4 cup instead of a 1/2 cup. If you’ve already made it and it’s too thin, you can make it thicker by adding more ice cream. Alternatively, if you prefer it a bit thinner, add a few extra tablespoons of milk until you get the thickness you desire.

Serving Suggestions

Enjoy your Samoa milkshake immediately after preparing it. Pile it high with your favorite toppings – I use chocolate sauce, toasted coconut, and whipped cream, but feel free to add some extra caramel sauce, a cherry, or top it all off with an extra Samoa cookie or two. Depending on the thickness of the shake, you may need a straw or spoon.
