Made with 3 types of liquor and vanilla ice cream, this Drunk Rudolph Milkshake is a decadent and fun Christmas cocktail you didn’t know you needed. Thick, creamy, sweet, and boozy, it’s a perfect after-dinner drink and dessert in one!
More irresistible creamy holiday drinks we love include our Dirty Snowman, Brandy Alexander Milkshake and Hot Buttered Rum, which tastes like a warm apple fritter donut!
Easy Boozy Drunk Rudolph Drink
This Drunk Rudolph drink doubles as a Christmas cocktail and dessert in one. It’s made with vanilla ice cream, Kahlua, RumChata, chocolate liquor, and hot chocolate mix for a milkshake that’s super chocolatey and boozy. Then it’s topped with fun garnishes like a maraschino cherry, candy eyes, colorful straws, and rosemary to make it look like Rudolph.
All of the flavors of this milkshake really shine through, from the vanilla ice cream to each liquor and the hot chocolate. It’s boozy but not super strong (unless you add some extra liquor!) and is perfect for enjoying after a meal.
Ingredients Needed
This fun Christmas milkshake is made with just 5 ingredients, plus a few garnishes.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Vanilla ice cream – Whatever your favorite vanilla ice cream is will work. There’s no need to splurge on a fancy brand, since we’ll be adding lots to this milkshake.
- Kahlua – Kahlua adds hints of coffee, which help enhance the chocolate flavor.
- RumChata – RumChata adds some vanilla and spice undertones to the drink.
- Chocolate liquor – We love Godiva’s dark chocolate liquor in this recipe, but use whatever chocolate liquor you like.
- Hot chocolate mix – For even more chocolate flavor!
- Garnishes – To create the reindeer look, I garnish my drunk Rudolph cocktail with whipped cream, maraschino cherries, candy eyes, colorful straws (for the antlers), and rosemary sprigs.
Can I Use Other Liquor?
If you don’t like one of the liquors in the ingredients list for this drunk Rudolph milkshake, you can easily substitute more of the one(s) you like. Keep in mind that rum, vodka, etc tend to have a higher alcohol content than liqueurs so depending on what you add, the cocktail can end up being quite strong.
If you want to change it up, other yummy liquors you could add include:
- Bailey’s Irish cream
- Vodka (flavored ones like vanilla, whipped, or caramel would be especially good!)
- White chocolate liquor
- Spiced rum
- Regular light or dark rum
- Fireball
How to Make A Drunk Rudolph Cocktail
This fun Christmas cocktail comes together in just 5 minutes (or less)!
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Blend the ingredients. Add all of the ingredients (except the garnishes) to a blender. Blend until smooth then pour into glasses.
- Garnish. Turn each boozy milkshake into Rudolph by adding whipped cream, a maraschino cherry for the nose, candy eyes, and two straws with a rosemary sprig inside for the antlers.
- Enjoy. Serve immediately!
How to Achieve the Perfect Milkshake Thickness
This recipe makes a pretty thick milkshake, which is how I like it since it does melt a bit as you drink it. If you prefer a thinner milkshake, you can add more alcohol to thin it or a splash of whole or 2% milk to the mix when you blend it.
Serving Suggestions
To turn this boozy milkshake into a reindeer, top it with homemade whipped cream (or canned or whipped topping all work), then make the reindeer face with the candy eyes and maraschino cherry as the nose. For the antlers, I used gold straws and then added rosemary sprigs. Super cute and easy!
If you’re after the flavor and not the cute Rudolph design, chocolate syrup and mini chocolate chips or crushed peppermint would also make tasty toppings.
Can This Be Made in Advance?
This boozy milkshake cannot be a make-ahead recipe due to the ice cream melting. If there are any leftovers, store them in the freezer. You will likely want to blend them again before serving to get the creamy texture back.
