Easy Pear Tea Sandwiches
These pear sandwiches are a wonderful appetizer to serve for a baby shower, bridal shower, Mother’s Day brunch, or even a game day get together if you’re looking for something light to balance out all the hot cheesy dips.
Made with fresh pears, honey-pecan cream cheese, nutty alfalfa sprouts, on toasted cinnamon-raisin bread, these tea sandwiches are light finger food and so delicious! They’re perfect for summertime, but also fall and early winter when pears are at their peak season.
Ingredients Needed
This is what you’ll need for these pear sandwiches.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Pears – You need fresh ripe pears. I prefer Bosc or Bartlett, but any type of pear works. No need to peel them.
- Bread – Lightly toasted cinnamon-raisin bread is wonderful for these sandwiches with a warm, sweet flavor. You can leave the crusts on or cut them off. White sandwich bread can also be used, if preferred, but the taste will be flatter.
- Flavored cream cheese – Honey-pecan Philadelphia cream cheese is the best for these sandwiches. If you can’t find it, just buy plain whipped cream cheese and stir in some honey and very finely chopped pecans.
- Pecans – These add a lovely nutty flavor and pair perfectly with pears. They should be very finely chopped.
- Alfalfa sprouts – These sprouts add some texture and slight crunch. They come with a subtle nutty taste and are loaded with good vitamins and minerals.
- Honey – For a little sweetness and to balance out the other flavors. Pears and honey love one another.
How to Make Pear Sandwiches
These finger sandwiches are so easy to make, the hardest part is trying to decide whether to cut them into squares or triangles.
- Spread the cream cheese. Spread 1 & 1/2 tablespoons of cream cheese over one side of each slice of bread.
- Sprinkle the pecans. Evenly divide and sprinkle finely chopped pecans over the cream cheese of 4 slices of bread.
- Add the other ingredients. Top each of the 4 bread slices with pears, sprouts, a little drizzle of honey, and the other 4 bread slices, cream cheese side down.
- Slice and serve. Cut into quarters and enjoy!
Tips for Success
- Use fresh ripe pears. Canned pears are too soft for these sandwiches.
- Prevent your sandwiches from getting soggy. 1) Pat the pear slices dry and 2) spread the cream cheese on both pieces of bread, which creates a barrier between the fruit and the bread.
- Use a good sharp Chef’s knife to cut the sandwiches. Wipe it clean in-between cuts so the edges of each sandwich are neat looking. (A serrated knife can tear the bread and a dull knife will require too much pressure to cut and cause the filling to squeeze out.)
Serving Suggestions
You can enjoy these as finger food or just simply slice the sandwiches in half for a light lunch anytime.
When cutting these for tea sandwiches, you have a few options. First, decide whether you want to remove the crusts or leave them on before spreading the slices with the cream cheese mixture. Then cut them into quarters, either as squares or triangles. Consider adding a toothpick so everything stays put.
These sandwiches are best served right after assembling or at least within a couple hours. Do not make them ahead of time. The longer these sandwiches sit, the pears will release moisture causing the sandwiches to get soggy.

Love these fun sandwiches!! Most sandwiches are just boring to me, but these are something else.
We don’t love raisins, but trying to stay true to the recipe, I made half with the cinnamon-raisin bread and half with regular white bread…the cinnamon raisin were by far the favorite!
Looks delicious!!
This is a fantastic sandwich!
Would never have thought to make a fruit sandwich, but what a nice light fare for lunch on a super hot day.
This sandwich is genius – pears, pecans and honey?! LOVE IT. And then the sprouts. I heart sprouts. I served them with a bunch of other appetizers and these went the fastest.
I LOVE that you put pears in this sandwich! They’re such an underutilized fruit.
Made these for a ladies lunch and we all LOVED them! Thank you for such a great and different idea.
