Bourbon Honey Butter Recipe

Flavored butter can be pricey at the store, so I just make my own. Plus, it’s fun to play with different flavor combinations like my cinnamon butter, herb butter, and this bourbon honey butter.

This bourbon honey butter recipe is made with just three ingredients – and they’re all included in its name – bourbon, honey, and butter. The salty butter combined with honey for sweetness and bourbon, which has notes of caramel, is such a fantastic combination.

Whipped together until super creamy and fluffy, a little bit of this flavored butter elevates so many foods. Serve some at your next brunch or dinner party and watch everyone swoon over it.

Ingredients Needed

As the name suggests, you’ll need bourbon, honey, and butter to make this recipe.

  • Salted butter – Make sure it’s room temperature for smooth blending. If you use unsalted butter, you’ll need to add a bit of salt to the recipe.
  • Honey – This is what makes the butter sweet, rich, and so delicious. Use any honey you like, but make sure it’s good quality. I’m partial to the Clover brand because it has such a deep flavor and color.
  • Bourbon – Just a touch of bourbon infuses depth of flavor in the butter without giving an overwhelming taste of alcohol. Bulleit, Woodford Reserve, and Jeffers Creek are good choices, but use whatever bourbon you enjoy drinking.

How to Make Bourbon Honey Butter

Making whipped honey butter could not be easier in just 2 steps!

  1. Beat butter. Beat the softened butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  2. Add remaining ingredients. Add in the honey and bourbon; continue beating until soft and creamy, being sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl. Blend again until incorporated.
  3. Serve. Spoon into a ramekin or glass jar. Use as desired and enjoy!

Tips for Success

If this is your first time making whipped butter, here are a couple things to keep in mind.

  • Salted vs Unsalted butter. I always make this with regular salted butter, but unsalted can be used as well. If you use unsalted butter, add in 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt a little at a time, as salt is a must for bringing out the best flavor.
  • Use softened butter. Before whipping, bring the butter to room temperature, which whips up super nice and creamy!
  • Adjust the sweetness. Some might think this butter is too sweet, while others don’t think it’s sweet enough. It’s all personal taste. If you’re unsure, whip the butter and then start adding in the honey 1 tablespoon at a time until you get the results that suit you.

Proper Storage

This can be stored in a ramekin or butter dish on the counter, covered, if it will be eaten within a couple days (out of direct sunlight and away from moisture), or in the refrigerator in an airtight container, up to 2 weeks, then allow to come to room temperature before serving. You can also freeze it up to 2 months (thaw overnight in the refrigerator, then set out to reach room temperature.)

  • 1/2 cup salted butter, , softened to room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 & 1/2 teaspoons bourbon

Instructions 

  • Place the butter in a mixing bowl; beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add in the honey and bourbon; beat until combined and smooth.
  • Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula and beat again until fully incorporated.
  • Spoon into a ramekin or a glass jar. Use as desired and enjoy or store for later.
