Air Fryer Hot Dogs
Air Fryer Hot Dogs taste exactly like grilled – but they’re ready in minutes with virtually no clean up! So simple but so incredibly good, a crispy and browned exterior with a juicy interior, this is the only cooking method you are going to want to use from now on.
The beauty of the air fryer wins out again. The hot air circulation gives hot dogs a satisfying crispy bite but they retain moisture on the inside. Cooked in an air fryer, the flavor is so much better – like when you use a flame grill. You will never need to boil or microwave another hot dog again.
What You’ll Need

- Hot dogs, of course! – A good quality all-beef hot dog is a great choice here but if you need to feed a crowd on a budget go for a basic hot dog which also tastes really good when cooked in the air fryer. This recipe works great for vegetarian and vegan hot dogs too!
- Buns (optional) – Good ‘ol regular hot dog buns or amp up the hot dog experience with a brioche bun.
- Condiments (optional) – My family typically enjoys a classic ketchup and mustard combo with a scattering of onions, but obviously use whatever floats your boat.
How to Cook Hot Dogs in an Air Fryer
Cooking hot dogs in your air fryer could not be any easier.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Preheat the air fryer. Start your air fryer at 400F for a few minutes to preheat.
- Cut slits in the hot dogs. Cut 3-4 small slits in each hot dog, then place them in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- Cook. Air fry for 6 minutes or until the hot dogs have achieved the level of doneness you prefer.
- Toast the buns. Carefully remove the hot dogs from the air fryer and place one in each bun. Place the buns with the hot dogs back into the air fryer and air fry for 1 minute. (You may need to do this in stages depending on the size of your basket.)
- Enjoy. Once ready, add your favorite condiments and enjoy immediately!
How Long to Cook Hot Dogs in an Air Fryer
Cooking hot dogs in the air fryer takes 6 minutes at 400F. This can, however, depend on the particular air fryer you are using. These air fried hot dogs were tested in my 5.8 QT Cosori Air Fryer (which I love, btw!) – then I place the hot dogs inside their buns and back into the air fryer for another minute.

Serving Suggestions
You can go to town with toppings. We usually opt for a classic ketchup and mustard combo with a scattering of diced onions. But pickled red onions, fried onions, cheese, or chili also make excellent toppings.
