Refreshing, sweet, and tart this Strawberry Margarita is made from scratch with just 6 ingredients and no margarita mix. Just blend the ingredients and enjoy. Whip up a batch for a few people or a crowd, perfect for summer parties!
Want it more like a slushy? You can make a frozen strawberry margarita. Or if strawberries aren’t your thing, make a plain frozen margarita.
Easy Strawberry Margarita
Strawberry margaritas are one of my favorite margarita variations. The addition of the strawberries makes the flavor a little lighter, which I think is perfect for those who aren’t huge tequila fans, and a little agave syrup adds a touch of sweetness.
I love making strawberry margaritas in the summer, with freshly picked strawberries. The flavor is just so bright and refreshing!
This recipe makes 4 cocktails but can easily be doubled or tripled. A big pitcher of these easy margaritas is perfect for summer BBQs and parties!
Margarita Ingredients
Here are the few ingredients you’ll need for this easy margarita recipe.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Strawberries – I highly recommend fresh strawberries. Frozen strawberries hold too much water and lack flavor.
- Tequila – See below for notes on the best tequila to use.
- Triple sec – You can also substitute your favorite orange liqueur. Cointreau, Grand Mariner, and Curacao all work.
- Lime juice – Freshly squeezed will give the best flavor.
- Agave syrup – My preferred sweetener but honey will also work.
- Margarita salt – If you don’t like salt, you can dip the rim in sugar, or leave it off altogether.
- Ice
- Garnishes – I like to garnish my cocktail with fresh strawberries and limes.
What Tequila is Best for Margaritas?
Silver or blanco tequila is usually used to make margaritas. Gold tequilas, which have been aged longer in oak barrels, are not recommended. You also want to choose a mid-range tequila or higher for your margarita. Top-shelf liquor isn’t usually necessary unless you want to be fancy, but the cheapest tequila won’t taste great. Beyond that, the best tequila for your margarita is the one you love most!
How to Make a Strawberry Margarita
Here’s how to make this easy margarita recipe.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Blend the ingredients. Remove the stems from the strawberries and cut them in half. Add them to the blender with the other ingredients. Blend until smooth. Let sit for 5 minutes and discard any foam on the top.
- Rim the glass. Add the salt to a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip in the salt.
- Enjoy. Fill the glass with ice, pour in the margarita, and garnish as desired.
Variation: Make It Frozen
Prefer your drinks frozen instead of on the rocks? No problem! To make this a frozen margarita, use 1 pound of frozen sliced strawberries. Proceed with the rest of the recipe as written. Note that no foam will come to the top with a frozen margarita so you won’t need to let it rest for 5 minutes.
Can I Make This Advance?
This is the perfect drink to make ahead for a party! Just whip up a huge batch and place it in a pitcher, and keep it in the fridge until your guests arrive. Give it a good stir before serving. You can either salt the rims of each glass in advance or let guests choose between salt and sugar to do it themselves. (Or even skip the salted rim altogether.)
