Boozy Strawberry Shortcake Milkshake

Looking for a quick, easy, fun – and of course, delicious! – way to cool down on a hot summer day? This boozy Strawberry Shortcake Milkshake is just the thing.

Part milkshake, part cocktail, this dessert drink is cool and creamy – and tastes just like a strawberry shortcake! It’s made with both vodka (either whipped vodka or cake vodka) and amaretto, so it is pretty boozy even if it doesn’t taste like it.

We adults love to enjoy this strawberry shake after dinner as dessert and I’ve even served up smaller versions for guests at family gatherings. If you need to make a kid-friendly version, just skip the booze.

Ingredients Needed

This boozy strawberry milkshake is made with just a handful of ingredients.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  • Vanilla ice cream – Any brand you love will work.
  • Milk – Whole milk is best for the rich, creamy flavor and texture though 2% would work too.
  • Strawberries – Either fresh or thawed frozen strawberries.
  • Angel food cake – Blended in the drink as well as used as a garnish. We love our homemade angel food cake recipe but store-bought is perfectly fine.
  • Amaretto liquor – Adds the classic almond flavor.
  • Vodka – Smirnoff Whipped Vodka or cake vodka give the best flavor.
  • Vanilla – Adds the vanilla flavor.
  • Whipped cream – You can use homemade whipped cream or store-bought for topping.

What’s the Best Liquor for This Boozy Strawberry Milkshake?

You can use Smirnoff Whipped vodka or Cake vodka depending on what flavor you prefer. Typically, whipped vodka tastes just like whipped cream with an alcoholic flavor, while cake vodka has undertones of a spongy cake. Banana liqueur is another option, which almost makes the drink taste like a banana split!

How to Make a Strawberry Shortcake Milkshake

Your boozy milkshake is just a few simple steps away!
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  1. Blend the ingredients. Blend all ingredients on high, until incorporated and smooth.
  2. Garnish. Pour into two large milkshake glasses, top with a slice of angel food cake, and pipe some whipped cream on top. Finish with a few fresh strawberries.

Can I Make This Without Alcohol?

Of course! Just omit the vodka and amaretto. I recommend adding an extra splash of milk to reach the desired consistency and some almond extract for the flavor.

Serving Suggestions

This recipe makes two big strawberry milkshakes or four smaller ones. I like to top each one with a slice of angel food cake, whipped cream, and strawberries.

You will want to enjoy your strawberry shortcake milkshake immediately after preparing, as it won’t freeze and thaw well.
