Ramen Wrapped Cod Recipe

I think I finally figured out a way to get my kids to like fish. Wrap it in Ramen noodles. Obviously. Actually, I think that will be my new motto for life #wrapitinramen

This Ramen Wrapped Cod is simply awesome. Plain white fish is seasoned, then wrapped in cooked ramen noodles, and pan fried in butter. The fish is flaky and tender, while the outside is crunchy. It’s a unique and delicious way to enjoy fish and might get those picky eaters on board, too!

Ingredients Needed

This cod recipe only requires a few ingredients.
(Scroll to the bottom for our easy printable recipe with the complete details.)

  • Cod fillets – You’ll need 6 ounce skinless fillets. Make sure they are completely thawed if frozen.
  • Ramen noodles – Any flavor, since you’ll be discarding the flavor packet that comes with them.
  • Egg – The cooked ramen noodles are tossed with beaten egg, which acts as a “glue” to attach to the fish.
  • Seasoning – Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper season the fish.
  • Flour – The fish is dredged in flour and the seasonings, which helps seal in moisture.
  • Olive oil and Butter – Both are used to pan fry the fish and provide richness and necessary moisture and a crispy texture to the ramen.

How to Make Cod Wrapped in Ramen Noodles

This cod wrapped in ramen recipe is super easy and requires just a few steps.
(Scroll to the bottom for our easy printable recipe with the complete directions.)

  1. Prep the fish. Rinse the fish and pat dry with paper towels. Cut them in half lengthwise.
  2. Cook the ramen and toss with egg. Prepare noodles according to package directions; drain. Let cool slightly and toss with the beaten egg.
  3. Season and dredge in flour. Place flour in a shallow dish. Sprinkle fish with a dash of salt and pepper and the Cajun seasoning, then dredge fillets in the flour to coat. Shake off any excess.
  4. Wrap fish in ramen. Remove noodles from egg a few at a time, and wind around fish in an even layer, adding new strands until covered.
  5. Cook. In a large nonstick skillet, heat oil and butter over medium-high. Add fish; cook 5-6 minutes per side until golden, crisp, and fish flakes easily. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Fish should be completely dry. Keep patting the fish dry with several paper towels until the actual towels are dry.
  • Try a different fish. I make this recipe with cod because it’s such a mild, almost flavorless fish. Plus, pretty inexpensive. But you can use halibut, mahi mahi, or snapper.
  • Use other seasoning. We like the complex flavors and heat of cajon seasoning, but if it’s not your thing, switch it up with your favorites spices.

Serving Suggestions

Light and crispy ramen wrapped cod pairs great with french friescoleslawmacaroni salad, lemon slices, and tartar sauce or remoulade sauce.

I like to serve the cod fillets in restaurant-style food baskets with the food liner paper that restaurants also use. We eat with our hands, sort of like fish and chips!

Proper Storage

This dish is best served right away while the ramen noodle coating is nice and crispy and the fish is warmed through. If you do end up with leftovers, however, store in an airtight container and eat within 1 to 2 days. Then you can reheat the next day by quickly pan frying them again, or popping them in the oven or air fryer. Just note that they won’t be as crisp as they were when you first fried them.
