Raising Cane’s is a Southern-born chicken finger chain that started in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Their chicken fingers are good, but they’re way better with a proper dipping sauce, and Raising Cane’s sauce is the famous creamy, peppery signature dip people rave about!

Raising Cane’s sauce has a similar base to Thousand Island dressing (mayo and ketchup), but it tastes way more tangy and peppery. The official recipe is kept pretty closely guarded, but I have to say this copycat recipe comes very close. I played around with the ingredients, adding a little more pepper here, a little less garlic powder there, until it tasted spot on. This easy sauce is basically made for chicken fingers, but don’t be surprised if it ‘accidentally’ ends up on fries, sandwiches, and anything else within reach!

Helpful Tips & Variations

  • Use freshly cracked pepper. Raising Cane’s sauce is known for its tanginess and pepperiness. Using freshly ground black pepper is ESSENTIAL to achieve the best bold flavor. Pre-ground pepper can taste a little flat here.
  • Switch the Worcestershire sauce. In a pinch, you can replace the Worcestershire with soy sauce or balsamic vinegar.
  • Add some acid for flavor balancing. The lemon juice is optional, but I highly recommend it for a boost of additional flavor. You could also use dill pickle juice instead.
  • Let it rest. This recipe for Raising Cane’s sauce tastes better after at least 6 hours in the fridge, because the pepper and Worcestershire have time to mellow and blend. Overnight is best if you can swing it.

Serving Suggestions

This homemade Raising Cane’s sauce was made for dunking, and my family’s go-to combo is chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, and southern-style sweet tea, which are all really easy to make at home, too! It’s a popular addition to po’ boys in the South and could replace the remoulade on my shrimp po’ boy, and it makes a seriously good spread on a crispy chicken sandwich or bird dog sandwiches.

How to Store Leftovers

Keep this Raising Cane’s dipping sauce stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to a week. Give it a good stir before enjoying again.
