This copycat Chick-fil-A sauce is right up there with yum yum sauce in our home, as an addictive sauce for dipping anything and everything. It’s sweet, it’s tangy, a little citrusy, and it’s perfectly creamy. There’s no better accompaniment to waffle fries or chicken nuggets!

What is Chick-fil-A Sauce?

Chick-fil-A sauce is, quite honestly, the main reason most people go to Chick-fil-A. It’s their signature sauce that’s a bit of a cross between a smoky barbecue sauce and honey-mustard, with a light citrus undertone. It’s perfect for dipping chicken fingers, fries, and more.

Helpful Tips & Variations

  • Mayonnaise. This makes the sauce rich and creamy. You could sub with sour cream or Greek yogurt, but it would give it a completely different flavor and not a true copycat recipe.
  • Barbecue sauce. You can use whatever barbecue sauce is your favorite. Note that this dipping sauce does typically have a bit of a smoky flavor so I don’t recommend grabbing any honey or sweet barbecue sauce. If your sauce doesn’t have that hint of smoke (in case your bbq sauce is sweeter rather than smoky) include a splash of liquid smoke.
  • Honey. This adds a hint of sweetness. Agave could also be used, if necessary.
  • Mustard. Both dijon and yellow mustard are used in this recipe.
  • Lemon juice. This can be substituted with apple cider vinegar, if that’s what you have on hand.

Copycat Chick-fil-A Sauce

Prep: 5 minutes
Chill Time: 1 hour
Total: 1 hour 5 minutes
Servings: 8 (2 tablespoons per serving – 1 cup total)
With just a few pantry items and 5 minutes, you can make this Chick-fil-A Sauce Recipe Copycat at home. Perfect for dipping chicken tenders, french fries, and more!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce, (see note)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Whisk until combined.
  • Chill for at least 1 hour (ideally overnight) – this will help the flavors come together, but also allow the sauce to thicken up.
  • Enjoy with chicken tenders, nuggets, waffle fries, or anything that needs dipping!

Notes

Use whatever barbecue sauce is your favorite, but keep in mind that the restaurant dipping sauce does typically have some smoky flavor so I recommend avoiding any honey or sweet barbecue sauce. If your BBQ sauce is sweeter rather than smoky, you can add in a splash of liquid smoke.
