Few people would probably argue that the whole pumpkin spice craze has gotten out of hand and even down right ridiculous with scented deodorant, lip gloss, and even notepads. But the spice mixture as an actual food flavor cannot be denied!

Yes, the coffee houses made it popular, but it’s a wonderful Fall contribution in pies, fudge, cookies, and other baked goods.

What is in Pumpkin Pie Spice?

Pumpkin Pie Spice ingredients can vary depending on the brand, but typically include ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, and cloves. The combination delivers such a wonderful smell and taste to so many foods.

How to Make Pumpkin Pie Spice

Making your own homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice is not only cheaper than buying a jar of it, but also allows you to adjust the spice ratios and flavor the way you want it, and it’s so incredibly easy to do.

You simply whisk all of the ingredients together in a bowl until completely incorporated, then transfer to an airtight container so it stays fresh and aromatic. Alternatively, you can place all the spices directly in a jar, seal it, then shake until combined.

How to Use this Spice Blend

Flavoring your morning coffee is always a good choice, but it’s also delicious sprinkled over roasted acorn squash, added into homemade whipped cream, or used in pumpkin cinnamon rolls and mini pumpkin pies.

How much pumpkin pie spice to use? This will depend on the recipe you’re following. Many baked goods and desserts call for between 1/4 to 2 full teaspoons. I love this spice blend so much that I’ll often times use it in place of a recipe that just calls for cinnamon.

How Long Does Pumpkin Pie Spice Last?

Store this spice blend in a cool, dry place as you would any other spice and youโ€™ll have all the fall flavors within reach. It will last in an airtight container up to 6 months.
