Quick and easy, this Oreo Mug Cake recipe is made with just a handful of pantry staples plus Oreos and mini chocolate chips. It’s rich, decadent, has an airy texture, and takes just 6 minutes to prepare!

Easy Oreo Microwave Cake
This Oreo mug cake is based on the viral TikTok version that only used Oreos and milk. Even though this recipe has more ingredients, it is so much better with improved texture and way more flavor. And it’s still ridiculously easy.
To make this easy Oreo mug cake, you just need to combine a few ingredients in a bowl, pour it into the mug, add your toppings, and microwave for just over a minute. Each bite is filled with Oreos and rich, chocolatey goodness. I like to drizzle some heavy cream over mine along with some whipped cream for added moisture and an even more decadent treat.
With this Oreo microwave cake, there’s no chilling or waiting – you can dive in as soon as it’s prepared whenever that chocolate craving hits!
Why You’ll Love This Mug Cake Recipe
Here are a few reasons why this Oreo microwave cake is one of my favorites.
- The perfect texture. I’m not a huge fan of mug cakes in general because I think they tend to be either too dry or too spongy. But this Oreo mug cake is neither of those things. It’s incredibly wonderful.
- Quick and easy. This is one dessert that you can prepare in literally 6 minutes – and eat it immediately too.
- Uses pantry staples. As long as you have some Oreos on hand, you likely have everything else needed to make this too.
Ingredients Needed
You’ll need just a few basic ingredients to prepare this easy Oreo dessert.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Milk – For best results use whole milk.
- Oil – Creates moisture in the cake.
- Vanilla – For flavor.
- All-purpose flour – The base of the mug cake.
- Unsweetened cocoa powder – Adds the rich chocolate flavor to the cake.
- Granulated sugar – Adds just the right amount of sweetness to the cake.
- Baking powder – Ensures the cake rises in the microwave.
- Salt – To balance out the sweetness.
- Oreos – You’ll process some into crumbs to mix into the cake and crush another for topping.
- Mini chocolate chips – Adds even more chocolatey goodness!
Easy Variations & Substitutions
Here are a few easy ways to customize your Oreo microwave cake.
- Try it with a different cookie. You can use ANY Oreo cookie for this mug cake – try Golden, Mint, Birthday cake, etc.
- Whole milk substitutes. You may substitute low fat milk or non dairy milk for the whole milk if needed, but note that the texture will not be quite the same.
- Try dark chocolate chips. If you love dark chocolate, you can use dark chocolate mini chips instead of regular. Or even mint chocolate (which would be especially great with mint Oreos!)
How to Make Oreo Mug Cake
I’m not exaggerating when I say this dessert takes just 6 minutes to prepare. Here’s how simple it is:
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Combine the ingredients. Whisk together the milk, oil, and vanilla in the coffee mug. In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients and Oreo crumbs, then add to the milk/oil mixture and mix well, until no lumps remain.
- Add the toppings. Sprinkle the mini chocolate chips and crushed Oreo on top.
- Microwave. Microwave for 1 minute and 10 seconds or until done. (See notes below.) Add your desired toppings and enjoy!
How Long Do You Need To Microwave A Mug Cake?
This Oreo mug cake takes 1 minute and 10 seconds for me, but of course, this can vary depending on the mug you use and your particular microwave. It will also depend on how soft and gooey you like your cake. Start off microwaving for 1 minute, then add 10-second increments until it’s properly cooked through but not dry.
Tips for Success
Here are a few key tips for making the best Oreo mug cake.
- Use a large mug. Use a mug that’s microwave safe and holds at least 1 & 3/4 cups of liquid. This is best in a large mug, but one that’s more shallow instead of tall. If your mug is too small, the cake can rise over the top and make a mess!
- Make sure all ingredients are combined well. Be sure to stir the mixture until it’s completely smooth, with no lumps, so you don’t have pockets of dry ingredients in your cake.
TikTok Oreo Mug Cake Serving Suggestions
I like to top my Oreo mug cake with just a drizzle of heavy cream and then some whipped cream. However, if you want to go all out, feel free to add a scoop of ice cream, some chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, and even a cherry too. Or sprinkle some additional cookie crumbs or mini chocolate chips over the whipped cream. It all depends on how decadent you want to be!
Can This Be Made In Advance?
Mug cakes are best enjoyed soon after preparing them, while they’re still warm from the microwave. Unfortunately, the texture does not lend well to being warmed up again and will dry out the mug cake. But the great thing about these microwave cakes is that they can literally be whipped up anytime in just over 5 minutes!
