Easy Frozen Margarita Recipe
This 3 Ingredient Frozen Margarita Recipe is just the thing for hot summer days! It has the texture of a slushy, perfect for cooling down, with the sour-sweet classic margarita taste.
Even better is the fact that since we’re using a margarita mix, it takes just seconds to prepare. All you need to do is pour the marg mix with your favorite tequila and triple sec into the blender and 3 minutes later, your cocktail is ready!
This margarita recipe is for 2 drinks but you can easily double it to make 4 or triple it for 6. Just note that you should plan on serving them immediately (or at least within the hour, if you keep them in the freezer). Otherwise, they won’t have the slushy texture anymore.

- Ice
What is Margarita Mix?
Using a margarita mix makes this recipe quick and easy. Margarita mix is basically a bottled mixture of lime juice and some type of sweetener that adds the sweet-but-tart flavor to the cocktail. Look for one that has a short ingredient list as the ones with lots of additives can result in a not-so-nice hangover! We love our simple homemade margarita mix.
How to Make a Frozen Margarita
Here’s how to make a quick and easy frozen margarita.
(Scroll down to the detailed printable recipe card for exact measurements.)
- Blend the ingredients. Place all the ingredients in a blender. Pulse until the large ice is chopped, then run for 2 to 3 minutes, until perfectly smooth.
- Enjoy. Serve in a glass rimmed with salt and enjoy!
How to Make a Salted Rim
Adding a salted rim to your margarita is super easy. All you need is a lime wedge and salt. You can either use regular coarse salt or buy some specialty margarita salt (which they also make in many different flavors!).
To salt the rim, just run a lime wedge along the edge, making sure the end rim is wet. Then tip upside down and dip directly into the salt. Press it down quickly and then tip it up. Contrary to popular belief, there’s no need to twist the glass. Then pour in the margarita and enjoy!
Tip: Use Small Ice Cubes
The key to getting a smooth margarita with an older blender is making the ice as small as possible beforehand. You can either use a smaller ice cube tray or place your large ice cubes in a freezer-safe bag and smash them with a rolling pin to make the ice smaller.
Where do you get the smaller ice cubes? These small ice cubes come from my countertop ice-maker but if you just want to have the smaller ice cubes without having to have an ice cube maker, you can check out these trays.
Can I Make This In Advance?
You can make these up to an hour ahead of time and place them into the freezer, but any longer and the texture is just not correct. I did also find putting them in a vacuum-sealed tight Tumblr and putting it into the fridge will keep it slushy for about an hour as well.
