Air Fryer Wonton Chips

These golden, crispy Air Fryer Wonton Chips are like the wonton strips youโd get at a Chinese restaurant, only theyโre so easy to make at home. You only need 3 ingredients: wonton wrappers, olive oil spray, and flaky sea salt, then they crisp up in just a few minutes in the air fryer. I love them because theyโre light, crunchy, not deep fried, and perfect for snacking, dipping, or serving with your favorite Asian-inspired meals.

You might be used to wontons as the soft, filled dumplings in wonton soup, but this easy air fryer recipe uses the same wrappers in a completely different way. When theyโre cut into triangles and air fried, they turn into crisp chips like the crunchy wonton strips often served with Chinese takeout soups and salads. Since these wonton chips are air fried instead of deep fried, they come out lighter and less greasy, but still crisp enough to feel snacky and restaurant-worthy.
For the best crisp texture, I prefer using cooking spray because it gives the wrappers a light, even coating without weighing them down. You can use a pastry brush with olive oil, vegetable oil, or sesame oil, but I found that it can leave some spots darker than others. Once theyโre crunchy and golden, these air fried wonton chips are also so good with dips like sweet chili sauce, crab dip, duck sauce, or even a creamy spicy mayo!
Helpful Tips & Variations
- Work in batches. Donโt try to fit all 40 wonton triangles in the air fryer at once! Smaller batches give each piece enough space to crisp quickly instead of steaming or softening under the other wrappers.
- Keep them in a single even layer. The hot air needs room to circulate around each wonton wrapper, which is what gives the chips a light and crispy texture. If the triangles overlap or even a few corners are covered, those spots can stay pale, chewy, or brown unevenly. I like to leave a little space between each one and check at the 3-minute mark since they crisp fast.
- Use any seasoning you like. Sprinkle the salt or seasoning right after spraying so it sticks well. Flaky sea salt is simple and delicious, but everything bagel seasoning, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, ranch seasoning, cinnamon sugar, or red pepper flakes with grated Parmesan are all fun options.
- Let them cool before serving. The air fried wonton wrappers continue to firm up as they sit, so give them a minute or two before digging in. Theyโll be crispier once cooled and easier to scoop through dips without bending.
- Try different shapes. Triangles are the easiest option (you just slice the square wrapper in half!), but you can also cut them into strips. Or you could even use cookie cutters and cut them into fun shapes for holidays and parties. Iโd go for hearts for Valentineโs Day, Christmas trees for Christmas, or shamrocks for a St. Patrickโs Day version, like I do in my shamrock wonton crackers recipe!

How to Make Air Fryer Wonton Chips Step by Step

Gather all of your ingredients and preheat your air fryer to 350ยฐF. I used salt and everything bagel seasoning to flavor my chips today. You can use just salt or any seasoning blend you love.

Slice the wrappers: Using a sharp knife, cut 20 square wonton wrappers in half diagonally to make 40 triangles. Lightly coat the air fryer basket with nonstick olive oil spray to help the wonton chips crisp without sticking.

Season the wrappers: Arrange the wonton triangles in the basket in a single layer, making sure they arenโt overlapping or touching too much. Work in batches so the hot air can circulate around each piece.
Lightly spray the tops with olive oil spray, then sprinkle with 1 tsp flaky sea salt, or use your favorite seasoning blend. A little goes a long way here since the wrappers are thin.

Cook the wonton chips in the air fryer: Air fry at 350ยฐF for 3-4 minutes, checking at the 3-minute mark. Theyโre ready when the wontons are lightly golden, crisp around the edges, and look blistered in spots. Keep a close eye on them during the last minute because they can go from golden to very dark quickly.
Transfer the wonton chips to a plate or cooling rack and let them cool for a few minutes. Theyโll crisp up even more as they sit. Serve plain or with sweet chili sauce for dipping. Enjoy!

Serving Suggestions
This recipe makes 40 wonton chips, which works out as 10 chips per serving if youโre serving them as a snack or appetizer for 4 people. I love these wonton chips on their own or with sweet chili sauce, but theyโre also amazing with a crab rangoon dip when I want something creamy, savory, and a little takeout-inspired! To stretch the batch a little further, crumble a few over an Asian chicken salad for extra crunch, serve them alongside egg drop soup instead of the usual crispy strips, or scatter them over crab rangoon pizza for a fun crispy topping.
Storing Leftovers
Room Temperature. Store leftover wonton crackers in an airtight bag or container at room temperature. Theyโll be at their crispiest for the first 3-4 days, but theyโre still good for up to a week and will gradually soften over time.
