Easy Tahini Dressing Recipe

If you love the nutty flavor of tahini, you’ll love this homemade tahini dressing. It’s smooth and creamy, and the tahini paste is the star of the show. Olive oil helps to thin it out while lemon juice adds a bright citrus punch to balance the flavors. Plus just a bit of honey (or maple syrup) to sweeten it up.

This is obviously a wonderful salad dressing option but I love using it as a dip for veggies too.

Why You’ll Love This Tahini Salad Dressing

  • Quick & easy. Just combine the ingredients together and you’re ready to go! You can do it with a blender, a whisk, or even just in a jar.
  • Only a few ingredients. This tahini dressing is made with just 6 main ingredients, plus water, salt, and pepper.
  • Versatile. There are many ways to use your tahini salad dressing that don’t involve a salad. It makes a wonderful dip for raw veggies or drizzled over roasted veggies.

Ingredients Needed

This tahini salad dressing recipe requires just a handful of ingredients – the most important being tahini, of course!
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  • Olive oil – Be sure to use a good quality oil for the best flavor.
  • Tahini paste – Our star ingredient! Tahini paste is made from ground sesame seeds and oil, and most commonly used in hummus and baba ganoush. Available at most grocery stores located near the peanut butter or in the international foods section.
  • Fresh lemon juice – Adds a nice brightness to the dressing. Fresh is key here. It will make such a difference.
  • Water – You want to use ICE COLD water, which helps achieve the creaminess but not make it gloppy. The exact amount will vary depending on your desired consistency.
  • Honey – For a bit of sweetness that balances out the bitterness in the tahini paste. (You can also use pure maple syrup, if preferred.)
  • Garlic & Ginger – For wonderful aromatics and a bit of zing!
  • Salt & Pepper – Simple seasonings for flavor.

How To Make Tahini Dressing

Homemade tahini dressing is quick and easy to make.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  1. Combine the ingredients. You can combine them in a blender, whisk them together in a small bowl, or shake them in a jar with a lid. Whatever is easiest for you. You just want everything to be smooth and blended.
  2. Adjust the consistency. If needed, whisk in additional water to reach your desired consistency.

Tips & Variations

  • Adjust the consistency. You want the tahini dressing to be thick and creamy but you should also be able to drizzle it easily. If it’s too thick, whisk in more cold water.
  • Make it vegan. For a vegan tahini dressing, simply swap the honey for maple syrup.
  • Combine the ingredients thoroughly. If you opt for whisking or shaking the ingredients together, do so vigorously to ensure everything blends well.

There are many wonderful ways to use this tahini dressing. Here are a few ideas:

Proper Storage
