This Sheet Pan General Tso’s Chicken recipe is a great alternative to Chinese takeout. It’s lighter, loaded with veggies, and ready in just 35 minutes. I love that there’s only one pan to clean up after dinner! I usually serve this with steamed white rice, though fried rice is great too.

My sheet pan beef & broccoli recipe inspired me to recreate another one of my family’s favorite Chinese takeout dishes – General Tso’s chicken. While this recipe isn’t an exact copycat you’d get at a Chinese restaurant, it maintains the most important flavors using popcorn chicken, a mix of veggies, and General Tso’s sauce. The best part is it’s super quick and easy with only 1 pan to clean, and no deep frying!
Tips & Variations
- Customize the veggies used. General Tso’s chicken is typically prepared with broccoli. I also added peppers and mushrooms to add some variety. Feel free to also add onions, cauliflower, or other veggies as desired.
- Use breaded popcorn chicken. Using frozen breaded chicken helps make this sheet pan General Tso’s chicken quick and easy. I love the Just Bare brand, which is very lightly breaded. Feel free to use any that you have on hand, though.
- How do I know when it’s done? This sheet pan General Tso’s chicken is done when the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165F and the veggies are fork tender.

Serving Suggestions
I like to serve General Tso’s chicken over some steamed white rice for a quick, easy meal. Fried rice works too. If I’m really craving Chinese takeout, I’ll also make some egg rolls as a side.
How To Store Leftovers
- Fridge. Leftover sheet pan General Tso’s chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge. It’s best enjoyed within 3 days.
- Freezer. Allow to cool completely, then store in an airtight freezer-safe container. It will keep up to 2 months. Let thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating. Note that the breading on the chicken and all the veggies can get mushy once thawed.
- Reheat. The easiest way to reheat this dish is in the microwave. Larger portions can also be reheated in the oven or small portions crisp back up in the air fryer.
