Ingredients Needed
This creamy jalapeno dip recipe is made with just 6 simple ingredients.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Cilantro – Use fresh cilantro for complex flavor. No need to chop it up for this recipe, since you’re just going to throw it in the blender.
- Jalapeños – You’ll want fresh jalapenos for this dip. Jarred pickled ones just don’t deliver the right flavor.
- Sour cream – This is the base of the dip and provides a smoother texture and mild, slightly tangy flavor. (You can use Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream if you prefer, but I recommend using a full fat option.)
- Mayonnaise – Mayo helps create a thicker, dip-able consistency.
- Ranch seasoning mix – Buy a packet at the store or use my homemade Ranch seasoning (which you should make anyway, regardless of this dip. HA.)
- Buttermilk – Tangy buttermilk will deliver the best taste and texture, and balance out the spicy jalapenos for this dip. I don’t recommend swapping it out with regular milk.
How To Make Jalapeno Dip
This creamy dip comes together in just 10 minutes.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.
- Blend cilantro and jalapenos. Place the cilantro and jalapenos in the blender and pulse until finely chopped.
- Add in the other ingredients. Add the sour cream, mayonnaise, and ranch seasoning into the blender and pulse until combined. Slowly pour in the buttermilk and blend until you get your desired consistency.
- Chill. Cover mixture and place in the refrigerator for a few hours to allow the flavors to deepen.
- Serve. Enjoy with tortilla chips or fresh veggie sticks.
Tips for Success
- Want it less spicy? Remove the seeds from the jalapenos for a less spicy dip.
- The amount of buttermilk can vary. I suggest starting with just a 1/4 cup and checking the consistency of your dip. Adjust from there.
- Don’t have a blender? You can make this without a blender, but it will result in a much chunkier-style dip. You want to ensure you’re very finely chopping the cilantro and jalapeños before mixing it with the other ingredients.
- Chill first for best flavor. I prefer to make this dip several hours before serving because it gives the ranch dressing powder the ability to absorb all the liquid and let the flavors deepen.
Proper Storage
Transfer dip to an airtight container and store in the fridge. It will keep up to a week. Give it a good stir before serving again.
