Easy Strawberry Jello Banana Pudding Shots Recipe
If you love jello shots and pudding shots, you’ll surely love these Strawberry Banana Pudding Shots, which is the best combination of the two. So fun and unexpected, the mixture of jello and pudding gives a texture contrast to keep things interesting.
These include a fruity strawberry Jello layer and a creamy banana pudding layer, both with a bit of vodka mixed in, then finished off with piped whipped cream and your choice of garnishes.
The liquor isn’t super strong, but these are boozy, so keep that in mind when considering them for a party – they’re like an adult beverage and not just a dessert.
Ingredients Needed
Just a handful of ingredients go into this easy Jello and pudding shots recipe.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Strawberry Jello – A 3 ounce box.
- Water – Boiling water is needed to completely dissolve the jello, whole cold water cools it down and allows it to set properly.
- Vodka – Used in both the Jello and pudding layer. Ideally chilled.
- Heavy cream – For the Strawberry Jello layer. It should be chilled.
- Banana Cream Pudding Mix – It MUST be instant pudding.
- Whole milk – Cold whole milk is needed for the banana pudding layer. Whole milk is recommended for the creamiest texture.
- Cool Whip – Mixed into the banana pudding and also as a topping. You can also make your own whipped cream, if preferred.
- Toppings (optional) – Strawberry and/or banana slices.
How to Make Strawberry Jello Banana Pudding Shots
These shots are made in a few separate parts, one for the strawberry Jello layer and one for the banana pudding layer. Here’s a brief summary.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Make the Jello layer. Whisk the boiling water into the strawberry Jello powder until dissolved, then whisk in the cold water, chilled vodka, and heavy cream.
- Transfer to cups. Evenly add the Jello mixture to 24, 2-ounce containers. Place the lids on and chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour to set.
- Make the pudding layer. Whisk the pudding powder and cold milk together vigorously for 2 minutes. Whisk in the vodka, then fold in half of the whipped topping. Whisk until smooth.
- Transfer to strawberry cups. Add the pudding mixture on top of the strawberry jello (you may have some leftovers, make sure there is enough room to add a lid.) Place the lids on and return to the fridge for at least one hour.
- Serve. Before serving, pipe on the remaining whipped topping to each shot and garnish as desired.
Tips & Variations
Here are a few tips for the best pudding shots.
- Try other flavors. Vanilla or cheesecake flavored pudding mixes would all be good instead of the banana. You can use this same method with whatever flavor combo you like.
- Make sure the pudding mix is instant. This recipe will not work with pudding mix that needs to be cooked.
- There will be leftover whipped topping. You’ll need 2, 8 ounce tubs of whipped topping, but there will be extra. You can also use homemade or canned whipped cream like Reddi-Wip instead.
- Make homemade whipped cream. You can use fresh homemade whipped cream in place of the whipped topping, if preferred. You will need 2 cups of heavy whipping cream and 1/4 cup of powdered sugar. Place these two items in a large bowl and beat until stiff peaks form. Use half of the whipped cream in the mix and the other half for the topping.
- Wait to add the toppings. You can garnish the shots with fresh strawberry or banana slices, if desired. I would only add the toppings until right before you are ready to serve. If you expect to have leftovers, add the toppings only to the pudding shots that will be enjoyed right away.
Proper Storage
- How long do pudding shots last? These strawberry banana pudding shots will last in the fridge for up to 5 days, as long as they are kept covered. I do recommend storing them without any toppings, as the whipped cream won’t hold its form (especially homemade) and the other ingredients can seep into the pudding mixture.
- Can you freeze jello and pudding shots? While pudding shots are awesome frozen, we don’t really recommend it with this recipe due to the Jello layer, which tends to get grainy once thawed.
