This Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookie Mix in a jar makes a great gift! It keeps for up to 3 months, and produces soft, chewy cookies. If butterscotch isn’t your thing, just swap out those chips for cinnamon or semi-sweet chocolate.
Is everyone recovered from Halloween? And how many of you are having chocolate for breakfast this week? *cough*
This is the first year we took advantage of the “candy buy back” that our dentist offers – $1 for every pound of candy turned in. We had four pounds, which I think is crazy! But $4 would barely cover the cost of chapstick, so I got the kids something fun at Target for their willingness to give up most of their score.
Totally worth it…because now I don’t feel bad about the amount of baking that’s going to take place in my house!
I love homemade gifts. The time and thought that goes into creating something from scratch, to give it to someone you care about, is so special. And who doesn’t love cookies?
I’m sort of smitten with this cookie mix in a jar. Aren’t the layers pretty? Tied with a nice little ribbon, it makes for such a great housewarming or holiday gift. And the baked cookies are soft and chewy, as any respectable cookie should be!

Where did you get the jars?
Target! But I’m sure you could find them at Walmart or online on Amazon.
What size jars? Just wondering as groupon has 2 for $10 personalized like happy holidays from xxxx
It says 1-quart in the directions.
These are very similar to ones I used to make with both butterscotch and milk chocolate chips plus chopped walnuts. It didn’t even occur to me to add coconut! Thanks, Amy!
Will you be so kind and send me this recipe via my email? plz
Such the perfect holiday gift!! It’s beautiful and obviously so, so useful. And yup… I have WAY too much Halloween candy in my office right now. But I definitely don’t think I’d have the willpower to give it up for $4 :)
Now that the 5 pound bag of Halloween candy is gone, I could always have mom fill up a bottle like that and ast it with a spoon. It’d be kinds like drilling for oil. I haven’t had butterscotch since I was a kid, but I’ll take my time getting back to it. I have five exams in the next month and they weigh me at each exam. I’m working on an eating regimim where the very act of eating makes you lose weight. Right now, after reading you blog, I can’t wait for St. Patty’s Day. Chocolate Mint Oreos here I come.
Fall is here! 47° this morning and I’ve put away the shorts and gone to jeans. I knew I shouldn’t have shaved my legs!
