Easy Chocolate Pudding Pie Recipe

This no bake chocolate pudding pie is a classic, with a simple Oreo crust and layers of chocolate pudding and Cool Whip.

Instead of just one layer of chocolate pudding, we’ve got a layer of chocolate pudding, a layer of pudding mixed with Cool Whip, and a layer of just Cool Whip. It not only adds to the visual appeal but also makes the texture light and creamy.

This chocolate pudding pie is the perfect anytime pie, whether it’s a hot summer day or a holiday. This one is so popular that we make it year-round.

Why You’ll Love This No Bake Chocolate Pie

Here are a few reasons this will become one of your favorite chocolate pie recipes.

  • Just 6 ingredients. Yup, that’s right – chocolate pudding pie is made with just 6 ingredients.
  • Decadent chocolate flavor. Between the Oreo crust, chocolate pudding, and chocolate ribbons, each bite of this pudding pie is filled with rich chocolate flavor.
  • Just 2 hours chill time. While this recipe does need to chill, it’s not necessarily a pie that needs to be made the night before. Just 2 hours and it’s ready to go!

What You’ll Need

This jello pudding pie is made with just 6 simple ingredients.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  • Oreo cookies – Used to form the crust of the pie.
  • Butter – Melted butter helps hold the crumbs together to form the crust.
  • Chocolate pudding – Be sure to grab instant pudding, not cook and serve.
  • Milk – Whole milk works best, though 2% is okay. Skim milk tends to thin the pudding out too much.
  • Cool Whip – Used both as a topping and in the pudding mixture to give it some shape and a light texture.
  • Chocolate bar – Used to create chocolate shavings as a garnish.

Recipe Variations

Here are a few easy variations you can make to this no bake chocolate pie recipe.

  • Make a graham cracker crust. Swap the Oreos for graham crackers to make this chocolate pudding pie with a classic graham cracker crust.
  • Use a prepared crust. To make it even quicker, use a store-bought crust. Either Oreo or classic graham cracker works.
  • Try it with whipped cream. Homemade whipped cream can be used instead of the Cool Whip, if preferred.
  • Try a different flavored pudding. Pistachio, vanilla, Oreo, and butterscotch all work wonderfully.

  • Assemble the pie layers. Pour half of the pudding into the Oreo crust, then fold half of the Cool Whip into the remaining half. Spread over the pudding. Top with the remaining Cool Whip.
  • Add chocolate ribbons. Use a vegetable peeler to peel chocolate ribbons over the top of the pie.
  • Chill. Refrigerate for at least an hour to set.

Tips for Success

Here are a few tips for preparing this no bake chocolate pie.

  • Press the crust firmly into the pan. I like to use the bottom of a glass to help me do this. If the crumbs aren’t firmly packed down, the crust will crumble as you slice it.
  • Chill the crust. Don’t skimp on the time to chill the crust or it will crumble when slicing.
  • Be sure to whisk until the pudding thickens. This should only take a minute or so but you do want the pudding to thicken before you pour it.
  • Chocolate ribbon alternatives. If you don’t want to make the chocolate ribbons, you can either skip the garnish or sprinkle some chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or chocolate chips over the top.

Serving Suggestions

The most important thing when serving this no bake chocolate pie is to allow it to chill before slicing. Otherwise, the layers will just slide everywhere.

This easy chocolate pie makes a great addition to a holiday spread, right next to classics like apple pie and pumpkin pie too.

How Long Does Chocolate Pudding Pie Last?
