Made with just 4 ingredients, these Cheddar Onion Ring Chips are an easy, lower-carb snack! They’re a tasty alternative to traditional deep fried onion rings and potato chips when you’re craving something salty.

These cheddar cheese onion ring chips are salty, savory, and perfectly crispy with onion slices, cheddar cheese, candied jalapenos, and just a sprinkle of creole seasoning. It’s the perfect combination of sweet and spicy flavors to satisfy your taste buds.
No, these certainly are not irresistible deep fried onion rings, but they’re still a pretty great snack for the onion lover and without the guilt. You only need 5 minutes of prep!
Helpful Tips
- Use freshly shredded cheese. It will give you optimal flavor and melting, compared to the pre-shredded packages of cheese. You can replace the cheddar cheese with other desired cheese.
- Candied jalapeño rings – Drained and patted dry. Our candied jalapenos add a touch of heat and also sweetness. Or you could use jarred pickled jalapeño rings from the store that aren’t sweet.
- Make sure the cheese is browning. It’s important to bake these until the cheese is bubbling and the edges are browning or they won’t be crispy.
- Cool in the pan first. If you try to remove the cheddar cheese chips from the pan immediately, you’ll just have melted cheese on your hands. Give it a few minutes to set so you can easily transfer it to the paper towel plate.
- Bake directly on parchment paper instead. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Mound portions of the cheese mixture, with 2 inches between. Flatten them slightly with the back of the spoon. Proceed with the written recipe.

- 24 candied jalapeños (or pickled jalapeño rings), drained and patted dry
- 1/4 teaspoon creole seasoning (or seasoning of your choice)
Instructions
- Coat a Wilton muffin top pan with nonstick spray. (See note below.)
- Add freshly shredded cheddar cheese to each circle (about 1/4 cup.)
- Next, add an onion circle on top of the cheese and two pickled jalapeños on top of the onion. Sprinkle with a bit of creole seasoning.
- Bake at 400F for about 12-15 minutes or until the edges start to brown. (Watch them carefully, as they can go from done to burnt quickly.)
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Then run a dull knife around the edges of the cheddar onion chips to take them out.
- Transfer to paper towel-lined plates to drain for 10 minutes and crisp up.
- Serve with marinara sauce for dipping if desired and enjoy!

Serving Suggestions
Cheddar onion rings make a great anytime snack. We love to dip them in marinara sauce though if you’re counting carbs you may just want to enjoy them as-is. They’re also super delicious topped on a burger (whether it’s an onion burger, turkey burger, or chicken burger), just like you would a slice of onion.
Proper Storage
How Long Will Cheddar Onion Rings Stay Fresh? I recommend enjoying your cheddar onion chips the day they’re made for best crispness. However, they can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
