Caramel Apples Made with Grapes

Are these Caramel Apple Grapes not the cutest things ever?! They’re basically like a caramel apple, but made with green grapes instead. So much easier to make…and eat!

These are so much fun for parties, game day, bridal showers, or any occasion. Every time I serve them, they are gobbled up in a flash.

Another fun snack made with caramel sauce is our caramel apple nachos!

Why Not Just Call Them Caramel Grapes?

But shouldn’t they just be called Caramel Grapes, since there’s no apple in this recipe? << I get that question ALL THE TIME. It’s a fun twist on a classic caramel apple. See the correlation…

side by side comparison of a caramel apple and caramel apple grapes

And they really do taste like little bites of caramel apple! But if the name bothers you, you can call them whatever you want. Nobody you serve them to will care. They’ll just ask for more!

Helpful Tips

  • Grapes need to be completely dry. Make sure your grapes are completely dry or the caramel won’t stick to them!
  • Caramel candies or Caramel bits. You can use either unwrapped caramel candies or caramel bits (if you can find them). Just make sure you have 1 cup total.
  • Keep the caramel sauce warm. Once caramel and cream melt, keep the sauce on the lowest heat setting so it stays warm, otherwise it hardens fast and you won’t be able to dip the grapes.
  • These can be made a day prior to serving. Just keep them in the refrigerator and let them sit out about 30 minutes before serving (or not โ€“ theyโ€™re delicious cold, too!)

Caramel Apple Grapes

Prep: 20 minutes
Total: 20 minutes
Servings: 50 grapes
Caramel Apple Grapes are the perfect snack! Grapes dipped in caramel and nuts. A little treat that tastes like caramel apple in every bite. Great for parties, game day, bridal showers, or any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 50 seedless green grapes, wiped completely dry
  • 1 cup chewy caramel candies, unwrapped (see note)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 cup salted peanuts, crushed finely
  • (you will also need toothpicks)

Instructions

  • Poke toothpicks into your grapes; set aside.
  • In a small pot, over medium-low heat, combine the caramel candies and heavy cream. Stir until melted. Reduce heat to lowest setting just to keep warm.
  • Dip the grapes into the caramel sauce and then into the crushed nuts. Place on a plate to set. Repeat until all the grapes are used.
  • That’s it! Pop those babies in your mouth and enjoy!

Notes

Grapes should be completely dry. Make sure your grapes are completely dry or the caramel won’t stick to them.
How many caramel candies is 1 cup? It will depend on the brand you buy, but typically 1 cup equals about 22 caramel candies.
What about allergies? Dip them in crushed up toffee bits, coconut flakes, cookie crumbs, graham crackers crumbs, or pretzels instead!
Make them boozy. For an adult version, soak the grapes in vodka first for 24 hours.
Love chocolate? You can also dip the grapes in chocolate instead of caramel.

I didn’t use toothpicks. I just snipped the grapes leaving a small stem .

Thanks for this idea! I made a big batch and definitely didnโ€™t have the 70 toothpicks I wouldโ€™ve needed!

I make mine using white chocolate slowly melted in the microwave. Dip in chopped peanuts or chopped mixed nuts immediately after dipping in the white chocolate. I use the seedless red grapes. I just grab a handful of toothpicks, stab a grape, dip in white chocolate then the chopped nuts and place them on a tray. My friends refer to them as โ€œcrack grapes โ€œ and request them frequently!

I just tested this recipe with 10 werthers soft carmels and a tablespoon of heavy cream worked well on 30 large grapes dipped in finely chopped roasted peanuts…it helps them to stand up too. I’ll test with carmel bits however werthers is a higher end carmel….Hope that helps.

Caramel bits? What are those? Do you mean caramel candy, that comes wrapped in cellphane? Often made by Kraft? Or are you referring to something else?

I made these for a neighborhood gathering during COVID times, and they were perfect, as no serving utensils needed to be shared. They’re a perfect Fall treat. They’re so cute, and quite delicious!

I made these today as a mini dessert for my husband. I had to sneak a few as I was making them. We both agreed that they taste exactly like a true caramel apple. Totally awesome! Will definitely make again for a treat at here at home but also for family gatherings. Thank you for the recipe!!
