Easy Christmas Brownies Recipe

Fans of chocolate and peppermint are going to love these Candy Cane Kiss Brownie Bites. They’re made with a rich, decadent dark chocolate brownie that’s complimented perfectly by the light, minty kiss on top.

To keep things super simple, I used a box brownie mix in this recipe, then just adjusted the add-ins a bit to get the final result I wanted. The candy cane kisses are not only used to top each bite but also chopped up and mixed in, for a little pop of mint in every bite.

These are the perfect Christmas brownies to make for your next holiday party as they’re festive, miniature, and beyond easy to whip up!

These Christmas brownie bites start with a box of brownie mix, so you need just 4 ingredients total to make them.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  • Brownie mix – Any brownie mix flavor can be used. Dark chocolate helps balance out the sweetness but milk chocolate or fudge will work too. Note that you won’t be following the instructions on the box for this recipe.
  • Egg – To bind the the batter together.
  • Heavy cream – You can substitute half and half or whole milk for the heavy cream if necessary.
  • Salted butter – Vegetable oil can be used instead of butter, though the brownies will not be as rich.
  • Candy cane kisses – You may have extra from a 10-ounce bag, depending on how many brownie bites you make.

How to Make Candy Cane Kiss Brownie Bites

Since we start with a boxed brownie mix, these Christmas brownies come together in just a few minutes with a couple of easy steps.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  1. Prepare the muffin tins. Spray 2 mini muffin tins with cooking spray and preheat the oven to 350F.
  2. Make the brownie batter. Mix together all ingredients except for the candy cane kisses until well combined. Chop 3/4 cup of the kisses and fold them into the batter.
  3. Bake. Use a 1 & 1/2 tablespoon cookie scoop to add the batter to the prepared mini muffin tins. Bake for about 15 minutes, or until set on the edges and a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Add the candy cane kiss. Allow the brownie bites to cool for 5 minutes, then press an unwrapped candy cane kiss into the top of each one.
  5. Enjoy. Cool for at least 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a cooling rack or enjoy warm.

Tips for Success

What If I Only Have One Mini Muffin Tin?

If you only have one mini muffin tin, no worries. You can make these brownie bites in batches without any trouble. Just be sure that youโ€™re letting the bites cool enough before you attempt to remove them from the tins. The batter may change in consistency a little bit when sitting out but the brownies themselves will still turn out delicious!

How to Easily Remove Brownie Bites from the Pan

In order to easily remove the brownie bites from the muffin tins, be sure that you spray the tins generously before you put the brownie batter in them.

Iโ€™ve also found that the best way to remove the brownie bites is to wait until they have cooled enough to be fairly firm and then gently wiggle them in the tin, back and forth in a circular motion, to loosen them. If they are still sticking, use a dull butter knife to gently loosen the sides but be careful not to scratch your pan or cut the brownie bite in half.

Proper Storage

These Christmas brownies can be stored well-covered on a plate or in an airtight container at room temperature for 5-7 days in a cool, dark area. They should be kept out of direct sunlight and heat. They will also last up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator, but I recommend allowing them to reach room temperature before serving.
