5 STAR REVIEWS
I find making candy in the crockpot is super simple, ideal for even the novice candy maker. The slow cooking melts the chocolate perfectly, so the flavors blend well. This crockpot candy is a simple recipe that makes large amounts of chocolate peanut clusters.
White and dark chocolate, butterscotch chips, and toffee bits are melted in the crockpot over dry roasted nuts, then spoonfuls are transferred to a baking sheet to harden into cluster candy. Itโs the ultimate combination for an indulgent treat.
For a festive holiday twist, I like to top these chocolate peanut clusters with red and green sprinkles, but you can use sea salt or other sprinkles to switch them up for other holidays and occasions.
Recipe Tips and Variations
- Candy melts, melting wafers, or almond bark is essential. You can use either Wilton candy melts, Ghirardelli melting wafers, or CANDIQUIK Almond bark, but do not replace it with regular chocolate chips. The candy melts are essential for creating the perfect texture and also ensures the chocolate sets and hardens to create the candy.
- Dry roasted peanuts. You could use 1 jar of salted and 1 jar of unsalted, or honey roasted. Or use your favorite type of nuts. I recommend a salted nut to help balance the sweetness of the chocolate. If you donโt have salted nuts, add ยฝ tsp salt.
- Donโt get any water in the chocolate. Be careful when removing the crockpot lid, not to allow any water condensation that develops to drip down into the chocolate. Water and chocolate are not friends!
- Fancy them up. Top with colored sprinkles or crushed candy canes for a festive touch.
- The crockpot is the best option. You can melt the ingredients in a microwave or double-boiler and then add the peanuts, but itโs not ideal for such a large amount of chocolate because it can easily burn. For big batches, a slow cooker is the best method.
Crockpot Candy

Equipment
- 6-quart Crockpot
Ingredientsย
- 2 jars (16 oz. each) lightly salted, dry-roasted peanuts, (see note)
- 32 ounces white/vanilla candy coating, (see note)
- 10 ounces dark chocolate chips, semi-sweet also works
- 6 ounces butterscotch chips
- โ cup toffee bits
- festive sprinkles, optional garnish
- sea salt, optional garnish
Instructionsย
- Coat a 6-quart crockpot with nonstick cooking spray (or use a liner.)
- Add to the crockpot in layers: the peanuts, candy coating, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and toffee bits. DO NOT STIR.
- Cover with the lid and cook on low for 1 hour.
- After an hour, then stir the mixture until the peanuts are completely coated with the melted chocolate. Continue to cook on low, stirring every 15 to 20 minutes for an additional hour. Turn off the crockpot.
- Line a couple large cookie sheets with parchment paper. Using a tablespoon-sized cookie scoop (or spoon), drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto the parchment paper, leaving space in-between. Sprinkle with festive sprinkles and sea salt, if using, before the chocolate hardens.
- If you have room in your fridge, chill for about 1 hour until hardened. If not, just let stand on the counter until set, which is perfectly fine, it will just take longer.

How to Make Crockpot Candy Step by Step
Get the crockpot ready: Spray a 6-quart crockpot with nonstick cooking spray.

Add everything to the crockpot: Layer the ingredients: Two 16 oz. jars of salted roasted peanuts, 32 oz. of candy coating, 10 oz. of dark chocolate chips, 6 oz. of butterscotch chips, and โ ย cup toffee bits. DO NOT STIR!

Cook: Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 1 hour. After an hour, stir well so the peanuts are completely coated with the melted chocolate. Then cook on low for another hour, stirring every 15 to 20 minutes. Turn off the crockpot.
Prep cookie sheets. Line a few large cookie sheets with parchment paper.

Shape the candy: Drop tablespoons of the mixture onto the parchment paper. Top with sprinkles and sea salt, if desired, before the chocolate sets.

Chill: If you have room in your fridge, chill for 60 minutes until hardened. If not, just let stand on the counter until set, which will just take longer.

How to Store
One great thing about crockpot candy is that it will last for several weeks in the refrigerator and just slightly less time at room temperature (away from heat or moisture.) Allow the candy to set fully, then transfer it to an airtight container to store, with parchment paper in between layers, if necessary.
What to Serve With Crockpot Candy
I like adding this crockpot candy to my holiday dessert tray along with slices of baklava, a few mini pecan pies, and these fun chocolate acorns.
