You all know my love for pie. But I actually think that cookies are what could solve world peace. I mean, really. Can you imagine if our world’s worst dictators were brought freshly baked, delicious cookies each day? That’s got to change someone. Or one would hope, anyway. If not, they have no soul!
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and I’m involved in this wonderful program to help raise funds toward pediatric cancer research and a cure. But you don’t have to donate anything. OXO is doing it for us!
Just look for this sticker on specially marked OXO products at participating retailers in September. For every stickered item sold, OXO will donate 25 cents (up to $100,000*), in support of pediatric cancer research as part of their pledge to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. They’re also making a $100 donation to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer for each blog post dedicated to this campaign. WOOT.

Cookie Spatula: heat resistant to 600° F with an angled handle so your hand is up and away from the food and heat. Also small enough to lift cookies from a baking sheet without disturbing the others.
Baker’s Dusting Wand: Ok. THIS. This is my new favorite toy. I’m actually baking things just so I can use it! You simply twist the handle and the wand opens, ready to be filled with flour, powdered sugar, or spices. Twist it closed and then sprinkle away from the tiny holes. Perfect dusting!

My thumbprint cookies are light, flaky, and delicious. And adaptable! Choose any jam you like. I went with apricot because I was experimenting with Halloween goodies and wanted something orange. Make a batch! And hey, it’s never too early to do some holiday gift shopping for the baker in your life!
Bake a Difference with OXO for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.
Apricot Almond Thumbprint Cookies
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter , softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup finely ground almond flour
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup apricot jam
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
- Preheat oven to 325°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- In large bowl, beat butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy. Add in all-purpose flour, almond flour, and salt until combined.
- Shape dough into 1 1/4-inch balls. Place on cookie sheet about 1 inch apart. Press thumb into center of each cookie (but not all the way through), to make an indentation.
- Bake 15 to 17 minutes or until set but not browned. Quickly remake indentation with the end of a wooden spoon handle, if necessary.
- Remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack; cool for at least 20 minutes.
- Fill each thumbprint with about 1/2 teaspoon of jam. Sprinkle the powdered over the top and enjoy!
