You all know my love for pie. But I actually think that cookies are what could solve world peace. I mean, really. Can you imagine if our world’s worst dictators were brought freshly baked, delicious cookies each day? That’s got to change someone. Or one would hope, anyway. If not, they have no soul!
Well, the incredible folks at Cookies for Kids’ Cancer and OXO believe that we can knock out childhood cancer one cookie at a time. And I do, too.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and I’m involved in this wonderful program to help raise funds toward pediatric cancer research and a cure. But you don’t have to donate anything. OXO is doing it for us!
Just look for this sticker on specially marked OXO products at participating retailers in September. For every stickered item sold, OXO will donate 25 cents (up to $100,000*), in support of pediatric cancer research as part of their pledge to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. They’re also making a $100 donation to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer for each blog post dedicated to this campaign. WOOT.
Here are some of the OXO tools I used to make these thumbprints…
Medium Cookie Scoop: get your cookies uniform every time with this scoop! It also comes in smaller and larger sizes, which are perfect for filling muffin tins!
3 Piece Spatula Set: *raises hand” “Hi, I’m Amy. And I’m a spatula hoarder.” These are heat resistant up to 600° F, flexible, and safe for use in non-stick pans. Love.
6 Piece Measuring Cup Set: these have a unique snapping feature for easy nesting and storage, permanent color-coded easy-read measurements on the side (each cup with a convenient half-measurement line), a hook in case you need hanging storage, and a scraper that can be used to level ingredients.
7 Piece Measuring Spoon Set: these match the measuring cups above, with the same awesome features.
Cookie Spatula: heat resistant to 600° F with an angled handle so your hand is up and away from the food and heat. Also small enough to lift cookies from a baking sheet without disturbing the others.
Baker’s Dusting Wand: Ok. THIS. This is my new favorite toy. I’m actually baking things just so I can use it! You simply twist the handle and the wand opens, ready to be filled with flour, powdered sugar, or spices. Twist it closed and then sprinkle away from the tiny holes. Perfect dusting!
I swear, OXO has the smartest product designers!
My thumbprint cookies are light, flaky, and delicious. And adaptable! Choose any jam you like. I went with apricot because I was experimenting with Halloween goodies and wanted something orange. Make a batch! And hey, it’s never too early to do some holiday gift shopping for the baker in your life!

Hi, Amy! What an amazing recipe, I was not expecting these to be so good! I used this recipe to make strawberry almond thumbprint cookies. Thank you so much for this recipe and what a great cause to support.
Love, love, love me some thumbprint cookies! And I LOVE how into kids cancer research OXO is. Yay!
Such a worthy cause to support and I love everything about these cookies!
These cookie are gorgeous Amy! Thumbprints are my favorite :) Pinned!
Just fighting the good fight…one cookie at a time. (We’re basically superheroes.)
Aw these are super cute! I have never seen them with an apricot filling before – neat idea! :)
These look absolutely delicious. My mom happens to love apricot jam and thumbprints are some of her favorite cookies that I make, but I never thought to use almond flour in them. She is going to LOVE these!
You probably already thought of this, but for Halloween, you could totally roll the dough in black nonpareils or sugar sprinkles before baking the cookies to make them even more fitting! Or put a slivered almond (maybe dark chocolate coated?) across the jam to make cats’ eyes!
Thanks, KB! I had thought of the incorporating something black into the dough (like chia seeds), but not the cat eye idea. I love it!
These little thumbprint cookies look incredibly delicious! Love the wonderful little apricot centres.. craving a bite of one right now!
Thank you, Thalia!
Thank you for drawing my attention to the XOXO products etc. I make a lot of thumb print cookies. Sometimes I do use apricot jam. I think it’s an underused flavor. So it was pretty cool to see it featured in your blog.
I think so, too Carol. Thank you!
This answers the lingering taste for both a fine cookie and a heart warming pie……….
Agreed, Nancie! <3
Those look perfect! So soft and plump, the ultimate thumbprint cookie :) great cause too!
Thank you!
These looks so perfect and pillowy!! Want!
You know what’s the biggest bummer about being an empty nest? I want so bad to do nothing other than make all of these cookies, but it’s just the two of us. While you might not think that’s a problem, I’m already needing to alter Jerry’s dress slacks. Oops. Not that this will stop me from making these and filling them with my homemade strawberry jam and blaming our weight gain on Stephie. ;)
You should totally freeze some of the cookie dough and only bake a few at a time. That’s what I do all the time!
