Easy Chicken and Waffle Sliders

Chicken and waffles may be a Southern breakfast classic but these chicken and waffle sliders are perfect for enjoying anytime. Sweet, savory, and bite-sized they make a great appetizer or snack.

These pair nicely with a Bloody Mary for brunch, and they’re perfect as a game day offering next to favorites like deviled eggs and grape jelly meatballs – you’ll be surprised at how quickly they disappear.

Not to mention, one recipe makes 16 sliders so they’re great for feeding a crowd.

Honey being poured over chicken and waffles

Ingredients Needed

This fun Super Bowl appetizer requires just 4 ingredients to make.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  • Pancake and waffle mix – You can use a homemade waffle mix if you have one that you really like.
  • Bacon jam – This gives the sliders a really delicious savory, salty flavor. Use our bacon jam recipe or most stores carry it jarred now. You can also add a bit of crumbled bacon instead.
  • Chicken – Use any breaded chicken patty, including boneless chicken wings. If you choose to use long chicken strips you will need to cut them into pieces that will fit onto the waffles.
  • Maple syrup – You can substitute hot honey if you prefer.

How to Make Chicken and Waffle Sliders

These easy sliders are made in just a few simple steps.
(Don’t miss the detailed printable recipe card below.)

  1. Prepare the waffle mix. Prepare the pancake and waffle mix according to the package directions for waffles.
  2. Cook the mini waffles. Heat the waffle maker and cook the mini waffles until golden brown. Separate them into small circles on a large serving plate.
  3. Add the bacon jam. Spread a couple teaspoons of the bacon jam over half of the mini waffles.
  4. Cook the chicken. Cook the chicken according to the package directions.
  5. Assemble. Place the cooked chicken on the bacon jam and top with another mini waffle. Secure with a long toothpick. Repeat with all remaining chicken.
  6. Add the maple syrup. Before serving, pour the maple syrup over the top, making sure to get some in the waffle holes on top.

What If I Don’t Have A Mini Waffle Iron?

What’s The Best Way To Cook The Chicken?

  • Air fry. The package of frozen chicken usually includes several different sets of preparation instructions. I prefer the chicken in my Chicken and Waffles to be crispy so I use my air fryer. If you are using the air fryer be sure not to overcrowd it or the chicken will not crisp properly.
  • Oven. Another good option to get crispy chicken is to heat it in the oven. This is usually the longest method but does give great results.
  • Microwave. If you choose the microwave option try to keep the chicken in an even layer, flip it at least once while heating, and be aware that it will have a softer texture. This is my least favorite option, but the microwave is usually the fastest.

Serving Suggestions

These mini chicken and waffles are one of my favorite Super Bowl appetizers, as they’re a bit unexpected but everyone loves them. I do recommend serving them with toothpicks to keep all the layers intact, and it’s always a good idea to have napkins or wet wipes nearby since the syrup makes these a bit messy – in a good way!

Proper Storage

These Chicken and Waffle Sliders are best served hot and crispy as they do not store well. Prior to cooking and assembly, the chicken should remain in the freezer. Cooked waffles can be stored in the fridge for a couple days and then warmed up again, and our bacon jam should also be stored in the refrigerator. Once the sliders are heated and assembled, serve right away.

Chicken and Waffle Sliders

Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 10 minutes
Total: 20 minutes
Servings: 16 sliders
These Chicken and Waffle Sliders are super quick, easy, and fun. Ideal for a crowd and they're the perfect game day bite of sweet, savory, crispy, and yummy.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pancake and waffle mix, (such as Bisquick) + ingredients needed on box
  • 8 tablespoons bacon jam
  • 16 breaded, boneless chicken wings or nuggets, (frozen, fully cooked)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

Instructions

  • Prepare pancake and waffle mix according to package directions. Make sure you are following the specific instructions for waffles.
  • Heat a waffle bite maker and cook mini waffles until golden brown – you will need 32 mini waffles in total. (See note below if you don't have a mini waffle maker.)
  • Remove the waffles from the waffle maker and separate them into small circles, placing them on a large serving plate.
  • Spread about 1 & 1/2 teaspoons of bacon jam over 16 of the mini waffles.
  • Heat the chicken as directed on the package – I prefer to use the air fryer method which cooks them fast and crispy! However you can use whichever method you prefer, just be sure they are heated to 165F in the middle.
  • Place a heated chicken wing on top of the jam on one mini waffle and top with another mini-waffle, without jam.
  • Use a cocktail pick or long toothpick to push through and keep the slider together.
  • Repeat with all remaining chicken and waffles.
  • Just before serving, pour the maple syrup evenly over all the sliders, making sure to get some in the waffle holes on the top.

Notes

Donโ€™t have a mini waffle iron? No problem. Just make full-sized waffles and cut them to size. You can also purchase premade mini waffles, such as Eggos.
