Easy Pizza Toast Recipe
Pizza toast is a fun new option for your next pizza night or any time you’re struggling to decide what to make for lunch or dinner.
Instead of your traditional pizza dough crust, thick slices of Texas Toast act as the base for all of your favorite toppings. I usually make this recipe as a bit of a supreme pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, and onions but you can use any toppings you desire.
Bonus, it’s ready in just 20 minutes from start to finish. Perfect for lazy weekends or even busy weeknight dinners when you just need to whip something up between school and activities.

How to Make Pizza Toast
Pizza toast makes an easy lunch, dinner, or snack because it comes together in just a few minutes.

- Toast the bread. Place the bread slices on a baking sheet sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Bake at 425F for 3-4 minutes, until the bread just starts to toast.
- Add the toppings. Flip the bread slices then top each with a tablespoon of pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, and the other toppings. Finish with additional mozzarella cheese on top.
- Bake. Return the Texas Toast pizza to the oven and bake for 5 to 8 minutes, until the cheese is melted with some brown spots.
- Enjoy. Remove from the oven and enjoy!
Tips for Success
Here are a few helpful things to keep in mind when making your pizza toast.
- Always toast the bread first. If you don’t, it’ll be soggy and essentially just pizza ingredients on bread, not pizza toast.
- Don’t add too much sauce. Try to stick to no more than 2 tablespoons of sauce. It’s just enough to make the pizza perfectly saucy without making the bread too mushy.
- Avoid going crazy on the ingredients. Likewise, be careful not to add too many ingredients. The more ingredients you pile on, the faster the toast will soften.
- Feel free to customize. As I mentioned above, you can absolutely customize your pizza toast with your favorite toppings so feel free to omit any that you don’t like or add others.
Serving Suggestions
Pizza toast should be enjoyed immediately. It makes a perfect lunch on its own or even an after school or pre-sports snack. We love it for dinner, too. You can make it into a fun family activity by allowing everyone to add their own toppings. Make it more of a meal with a side salad if desired.
Storing Leftovers
Pizza toast is best enjoyed immediately, as the sauce and toppings will eventually soften the bread. However, if you do have leftovers, wrap them in plastic and refrigerate for up to a day. Reheat in the oven or air fryer to maintain some crispness in the bread.
