Here’s how to make this simple fall treat in just a few easy steps.
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)
- Prepare the apples. Wash and dry the apples, then cut them into 1/2″ slices. Remove any seeds/stem. Pat the slices dry.
- Melt the chocolate. Melt the chocolate in 30 second intervals in the microwave, stirring in between. Once completely melted, stir in the coconut oil.
- Dip the chocolate. Dip each apple slice into the chocolate, using a spoon to coat the entire slice. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off then transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Add the toppings. Quickly drizzle with peanut butter, crushed peanuts, and sea salt.
- Chill. Refrigerate for about 15 minutes, until the chocolate is solid.
Tips for Success
Here are a few tips for making these chocolate dipped apple slices.
- Dry the apple slices. It’s important to pat the apple slices dry with a paper towel so that the chocolate sticks to the apple.
- Don’t skip the coconut oil. It helps thin the chocolate and also helps it harden quickly. The only exception is if you use candy melts or almond bark melting chocolate.
- Add the toppings quickly. Whether you’re using the suggested toppings or your own favorites, be sure to add them quickly so that they stick to the chocolate before it dries.
Serving Suggestions
Chocolate covered apple slices make a wonderful fall treat, perfect as an afternoon snack with just the right balance of sweet and healthy. They can also be served as a dessert at a Halloween party, alongside other snacks like mummy hot dogs or witch hat cookies.
Proper Storage
Chocolate dipped apple slices are best enjoyed immediately. However, you can store them in the fridge for up to a day. Any longer than that and the apples will release moisture which softens the chocolate and begin to brown.

Chocolate Covered Apple Slices
Ingredients
- 2 large apples , sliced about 1/2" thick
- 12 ounce bag dark chocolate chips , melted
- 2 teaspoons coconut oil
- 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter , slightly warmed
- 1/4 cup finely chopped peanuts
- sea salt
Instructions
- Wash apples and dry thoroughly. Slice into thin-ish (1/2") slices and remove any seeds/stem.
- Add chocolate chips to a deep heat-safe bowl. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring well in-between, until completely melted. Stir in the coconut oil until smooth (this helps thin out the chocolate for easier dipping and also allows the chocolate to harden faster once finished.)

- Quickly before the chocolate hardens, drizzle with peanut butter, then top with crushed peanuts and a bit of flakey sea salt.
- Refrigerate just until solid, about 15 minutes. Enjoy!
