Air Fryer Donuts

Donuts are my complete weakness, especially an old fashioned glazed or an apple fritter! We’ve been known to hit our local donut shop at 7am on a Sunday many times to feed my craving.

There’s also nothing like homemade jelly donuts, but I rarely want to deal with making the dough, or the oil and grease. So these air fryer donuts are great for a quick and easy treat whether it be in the morning, afternoon, or after dinner. No kneading, no waiting for the dough to rise, no grease, and no mess.

These are cheater air fryer donuts from Pillsbury Grands biscuits. They aren’t going to taste like your favorites from the donut shop and we don’t try to pretend they will. But for a quick and easy treat, with virtually no clean up, they are truly wonderful and everyone will love them!

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • 1-inch biscuit cutter

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. tube refrigerated jumbo flaky layers biscuits, (such as Pillsbury Grands!)
  • coconut oil cooking spray
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat air fryer to 350°F.
  • Separate the biscuits and place them on a flat surface. Use a 1-inch round biscuit cutter to cut holes out of the center of each biscuit.
  • Lightly coat air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  • Place 3-4 donuts in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they don't touch one another.
  • Air fry for about 5-6 minutes, flipping halfway through, until lightly golden. Turn out onto a baking tray lined with a wire rack and allow to cool. Repeat with the remaining biscuits.
  • In the meantime, make the glaze: Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a small bowl. (If glaze is too thick, add a bit more milk. If it’s too thin, add more powdered sugar.)
  • Remove donuts from Air Fryer and allow to cool, then dip in the glaze, followed by the sprinkles.
  • Allow the glaze to set and enjoy!

Notes

  • All air fryers are different! I would suggest doing a test run with just one biscuit donut and then adjusting the time/temp, if necessary. Just like ovens, cooking times can vary.
  • No biscuit cutter? Buy an inexpensive set or use a clean bottle cap in a pinch.
  • Try a cinnamon-sugar topping instead of the glaze: use ½ cup sugar, 2 tsp cinnamon, and 4 tbsp unsalted butter. Remove donuts from fryer, dip in melted butter, then roll in cinnamon sugar to coat.
  • Make donut holes: Save the center holes you punch out of the biscuits and make donut holes! Reduce the cooking time by half.

What to Serve With Air Fryer Donuts

I serve my kids these biscuit donuts with a nice cold glass of homemade lemonade or a cup of watermelon juice on those hot summer days. I like to pair my donut with a tall glass of boba tea.
