I just love simple holiday recipes that look like they took hours to make but secretly donโt, and these chocolate-covered Ritz crackers hit that sweet spot every time. A few years ago, I made reindeer Ritz cracker cookies, and they were such a hit that I knew I had to create another fun version. The salty crunch of the crackers with creamy peanut butter is already such a classic combo, but turning them into little Christmas ornaments makes them extra fun for both kids and grown-ups. I usually make a big batch for cookie swaps or wrap them up as edible Christmas gifts, and everyone loves them.
Helpful Tips & Variations
- Use regular peanut butter. Natural peanut butter separates and can make the sandwiches slide apart. Jif or Skippy holds the cookies together best.
- Candy melts are preferred over white chocolate chips. You can use white chocolate chips instead of Candy Melts, BUT youโll need to mix the melted chocolate with about a tablespoon of coconut oil to ensure it hardens and sets properly.
- Work in small batches. Candy melts cool and firm up quickly, so dip a handful of cookies at a time and rewarm the chocolate in 10 to 15 second bursts if needed.
- Tap off excess. After dipping each sandwich into the candy melts, give the fork a gentle tap on the bowl before placing the cookie down. This keeps the coating smooth and prevents puddles.
Ritz Cracker Christmas Ornaments

Ingredients
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter, (such as Jif or Skippy)
- 60 Ritz crackers
- 12 oz. Wilton red candy melts
- 12 oz. Wilton vanilla candy melts, (or Ghirardelli vanilla melting wafers)
- sprinkles, red, green, and white holiday sprinkles
- 15 Rolo candies, unwrapped
- 15 mini Reeseโs peanut butter cups, unwrapped
Instructions
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Spread 2 teaspoons of peanut butter onto 30 of the crackers; sandwich those together with the remaining 30 crackers.
- Melt the red candy melts according to package directions until melted and smooth.
- Place formed cookie stacks on a fork and dip in the red melted chocolate to coat; gently tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to allow any excess chocolate to drip off. Transfer back to the prepared baking sheet and allow to set.
- Using the leftover melted chocolate, attach a Rolo and mini Reeseโs peanut butter cups to the tops of the ornaments. Let set.
- Melt the white vanilla candy melts according to package directions. Transfer to a piping bag (or plastic bag and snip off a corner.) Drizzle over the red cookies. Top with some holiday sprinkles before the chocolate sets.
- Allow to fully harden at room temperature, or place the baking sheet in the fridge to set faster (about 10 to 15 minutes.)
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Use almond butter, cookie butter, or SunButter for dietary needs. Be sure the nut butter isn’t too oily, or the cookies won’t hold.
- Swap Rolos and Reeseโs for Lindt truffles, mini Kisses, or M&M’s, or whatever you prefer.
- Red candy melts can be swapped with any holiday color.

How to Make Ritz Cracker Christmas Ornaments Step by Step

Gather the ingredients: Gather all the ingredients together. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.

Make the peanut butter sandwiches: Spread 2 tsp of the 1 cup creamy peanut butter onto 30 of the 60 Ritz crackers, then sandwich them together with the remaining 30 Ritz crackers to form peanut butter stacks.

Dip the sandwich cookies: Melt 12 oz. of red candy melts according to the package directions until smooth. Place each peanut butter cracker stack on a fork and dip it into the melted red candy coating, gently tapping the fork on the edge of the bowl so any excess can drip off. Transfer each dipped cookie to the prepared baking sheet and allow them to set.

Attach the ornament tops: Use a small amount of the leftover red melted candy to attach 1 Rolo candy and 1 mini Reeseโs peanut butter cup (from the 15 of each) to the top of each cookie to create the โornamentโ look. Let them set.

Drizzle with vanilla candy melts: Melt 12 oz. of vanilla candy melts according to the package directions. Transfer the melted vanilla coating to a piping bag (or a plastic bag with the corner snipped off), then drizzle it over the red-coated cookies. Immediately add red, green, and white holiday sprinkles while the vanilla drizzle is still wet.

Harden the cookies: Allow the cookies to fully harden at room temperature, or place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes to speed up the setting.

Serve on a platter: Serve and enjoy!

Serving Suggestions
I love adding these Ritz Cracker Christmas Ornaments to my holiday dessert boards because they bring such a fun pop of color and always catch everyoneโs eye. Theyโre perfect for filling in the gaps on cookie trays with Lofthouse cookies and pistachio cookies. I love packing them into treat boxes for neighbors, or setting them out next to the gingerbread cookies on the table so everyone can nibble while they build. Iโll even tuck a few into tins with fudge, peppermint bark, and classic spritz cookies for an easy, festive mix.
How to Store Leftovers
- Counter. Store these Ritz Cracker Christmas Ornaments in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, away from heat or moisture.
- Fridge. Iโll sometimes keep mine in the refrigerator for 10โ14 days if I want the chocolate to stay extra firm.
- Freezer. To freeze them, place the cookies on a baking sheet to harden, then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container and freeze for up to 2 months. When youโre ready to enjoy them, let them thaw in the fridge so the chocolate doesnโt sweat. If youโre trying to get ahead during the holiday rush, you can also make the peanut butter cracker sandwiches a day or two early and dip them right before serving.
