The saying “behind every great man, there’s an even better woman” – um, totally true (wink.) But, truth be told, behind all my awesomeness, I’ve got a pretty great manโ€ฆwho shares the potato chips, vacuums, and most importantly, who wastes spends a lot of time on the internet and finds me all kinds of fabulously silly food ideas.

I mean, would you ever think to do this? (Hot dog haters, no comment!)

Hello. I’m a mom. With two little kids. I couldn’t make these fast enough.

Threaded Spaghetti Hot Dog Bites - donโ€™t serve spaghetti with hot dogs. Serve it in hot dogs! These are so much fun and taste great, too!

My daughter thought they looked like a jelly fish. My son thought they looked like a rocket ship. I thought they look like tentacles from an octopus.

I’m thinking for Halloween next year, I’ll use orange pasta and dye the hot dogs black. (Well, that just sounds gross. And awesome.)

When I asked what they tasted like, we all agreedโ€ฆspaghetti and hot dogs. With a big pile of fun.

We just coated the pasta with butter and Parmesan, but you could use marinara sauce, alfredo sauce, or add in some chili.

Threaded Spaghetti Hot Dog Bites

Prep: 15 minutes
Cook: 6 minutes
Total: 21 minutes
Servings: 6
Donโ€™t serve spaghetti with hot dogs. Serve it in hot dogs!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound thin spaghetti, , broken in half
  • 8 hot dogs, , cut into 6 even pieces
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan

Instructions

  • Set a large pot of water to boil.
  • Carefully thread 5-7 spaghetti strands through each hot dog piece. Cook until pasta is al dente, about 6 minutes.
  • Drain and mix with the butter. Serve in bowls with a sprinkle of Parmesan.
  • Thatโ€™s it! Only requirement is you must eat with a smile on your face!
NOTE: Thin spaghetti is in between regular and angel hair. If you use regular spaghetti, it won't cook enough and angel hair is too fragile.

I have made this a couple times when I had my younger brothers over, 9 & 12. Even though they are a bit older they still enjoy it. Tonight I am making it for my boyfriend as a surprise. since we watched the one Pirates of the Caribbean movie with the Kraken in it last night. Anywho, it is easy and always fun.

If you encounter any frankfurters or sausages with a tough casing you could pierce them with a wood or metal skewer first then thread the spahgetti through it, I usually buy the turkey sausage that’s skinless.

even HOT DOG haters can find uncured natural hotdogs in beef, turkey, chicken and vegetarian. Still should be fun for kids.

If I were to make a sauce what would be kid friendly and not detract from the hot dog fun aspect. (guess could be served on the side as a dip?)

I cooked these until Al Dente. And I used the Hillshire all beef midget links. I also used a can of creamy cheddar soup w/ some grated parmesan and a 1/2 pack of cheddar cheese, w/ about a cup and 1/4 of milk. I heated the soup and cheeses until melted, then added seasonings. Which consisted of a little S & P and a good pinch of granulated garlic. Then I mixed, and simmered in the crock pot (low to warm) depending when it will be served. I figured that kids like Mac & Cheese and hotdogs? So why not, right? Not only did the kids at our holiday party enjoy this, but the adults raved over them too! :)

I’m gonna do this today for my girls(6 and 2yo) I bet they will love it! I was looking for something to add to it since my kids don’t usually eat anything plain so this cheese sauce sounds perfect!

I would consider Italian Green Sauce, a cold uncooked sauce of parsley, basil, anchovy or oil from canned tuna, olive oil, rinsed capers, vinegar, S&P, made in a food processor. Has a nice herbal flavor with a maritime bouquet. You can call it seaweed sauce for hot dog octopi.

Recipe variants abound online. Made in 15 minutes. Also good over grilled fish, boiled beef, chicken, etc, and makes a nice alternative to pesto.

What about pushing the spaghetti through the hot dog in the other direction? Leave the hot dog whole, then push the spaghetti through it perpendicularly to create a centipede.

As long as the outer layer isn’t so tough it breaks the raw spaghetti as you push through, that would be fun too!

So basically, I just want to say how greatful I am that you have shared this amazing recipe with the all of us! I’m 12 years old and I cooked this dish for me and my sisters…and comments were all positive! Even my mother said I did very well and cooked it nicely, so thank you so much. I must say that it did take me more than 21 minutes. But hopefully I’ll learn to use this recipe more off by heart in the future! :)

Hi!
I made these tonight with kielbasa and sausages. Came out great! Threw some tomato sauce and Parmesan on the sausages ones. Both kinds were at hit with my picky eater children. Thank you!
