1/2teaspoonsalt
1/2cupunsalted butter, softened to room temperature
In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 & 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, beat 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter, 1/2 cup softened cream cheese, and 1 cup granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
Add in 1 large egg, 2 teaspoons almond extract, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Add green food coloring until you achieve your desired shade of green.
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls.
Roll each ball in granulated sugar to coat, then place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Slightly flatten each ball with your hand or the bottom of a glass.
Gently press one red heart sprinkle into the center of each cookie.
Transfer cookie trays to the fridge while you preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
Room temp ingredients. Make sure the butter, cream cheese, and egg are at room temperature for easier mixing and a smooth dough.Prevent the cookies from spreading. If the dough is too soft to handle, chill it for 20-30 minutes. This will make rolling the cookies easier and prevent spreading during baking.Press the heart sprinkle into the dough. Gently press the heart sprinkle after flattening the cookies to ensure it stays in place while baking.
