In a heavy saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, and salt. Then gradually add in milk.
Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly for 1-2 minutes until it thickens.
Cool and Stir
Remove from the heat; stir in butter and vanilla. Allow mixture to cool completely, stirring occasionally.
Pour Into Glasses
Pour into individual serving dessert glasses.
Pudding will continue to thicken as it cools, so be patient.
