Caramel Apples Made with Grapes

Are these Caramel Apple Grapes not the cutest things ever?! They’re basically like a caramel apple, but made with green grapes instead. So much easier to make…and eat!

These are so much fun for parties, game day, bridal showers, or any occasion. Every time I serve them, they are gobbled up in a flash.

Why Not Just Call Them Caramel Grapes?

But shouldn’t they just be called Caramel Grapes, since there’s no apple in this recipe? << I get that question ALL THE TIME. It’s a fun twist on a classic caramel apple. See the correlation…

side by side comparison of a caramel apple and caramel apple grapes

And they really do taste like little bites of caramel apple! But if the name bothers you, you can call them whatever you want. Nobody you serve them to will care. They’ll just ask for more!

Ingredients Needed

You only need 4 ingredients to make these:
(Scroll below to the printable recipe card for details and measurements.)

  • Seedless green grapes
  • Caramel bits/squares
  • Heavy cream
  • Finely crushed nuts

Recipe Variations

If you don’t like nuts or concerned about allergies, there are several other options to dip them in.

  • Crushed up toffee bits
  • Cookie crumbs
  • Graham cracker crumbs
  • Sweetened coconut flakes
  • You can also dip the grapes in chocolate instead of caramel
  • For an adult version, soak the grapes in vodka first for 24 hours

How to Make Caramel Apple Grapes

These caramel coated grapes are so easy to make in just a couple steps. Just like you would a caramel apple, you’ll dip the grapes in caramel, then dredge them in crushed nuts. (For full ingredient measurements and details, scroll below to the printable recipe card.)

Tips for Success

  • Make sure your grapes are completely dry or the caramel won’t stick to them!
  • Caramel bits are usually in the baking aisle with the chocolate chips. If you can’t find them, just use 1 cup worth of caramel squares (unwrapped.)
  • These can be made a day prior to serving. Just keep them in the refrigerator and let them sit out about 30 minutes before serving (or not – they’re delicious cold, too!)

I didn’t use toothpicks. I just snipped the grapes leaving a small stem .

    1. Milan says:

Thanks for this idea! I made a big batch and definitely didn’t have the 70 toothpicks I would’ve needed!

  4. carolyn says:

love these but they wanted to stick to the parchment paper. took to Church dinner and they stuck to the parchment. i melted carmels in microwave with 2 tbls water. do you think should have not added water?

    1. Amy@BellyFull says:

This recipe does not include water, so it is possible that was the problem. I’ve never had this issue.

  5. Beth says:

    Hi Amy,
I am making these cuties for a church get together. But I only have half and half, no heavy cream.,would this work?

    1. Amy@BellyFull says:

That should be fine since it’s such a small amount. It just aids in breaking down the caramel and making it creamy.

      1. Ruth Shoemaker says:

I make mine using white chocolate slowly melted in the microwave. Dip in chopped peanuts or chopped mixed nuts immediately after dipping in the white chocolate. I use the seedless red grapes. I just grab a handful of toothpicks, stab a grape, dip in white chocolate then the chopped nuts and place them on a tray. My friends refer to them as “crack grapes “ and request them frequently!

I just tested this recipe with 10 werthers soft carmels and a tablespoon of heavy cream worked well on 30 large grapes dipped in finely chopped roasted peanuts…it helps them to stand up too. I’ll test with carmel bits however werthers is a higher end carmel….Hope that helps.

This recipe is amazing!!!!! Just the right amount of sweet and juicy! Takes a little time to make, but they are so worth it!

  8. SLP says:

Caramel bits? What are those? Do you mean caramel candy, that comes wrapped in cellphane? Often made by Kraft? Or are you referring to something else?

    What are caramel bits??

    1. Lee says:

Look in the candy isle. They are Carmel squares individually wrapped in bags. The old fashion way to make Carmel dipped apples.

      1. Dalene M McGuigan says:

No, they ate little bits of caramel. In candy isle. Tje bag says “caramel Bits in it. They are new.

        1. Martha W. says:

They are found in the baking aisle with the chocolate chips. The bag will say caramel bits on it.

  19. Robin says:

I’ve enjoyed reading your recipes and now I’m getting ready to try a few of them. The first one I’m going to make is the Caramel Apple Grapes. Going to see how my family likes these and want to make for next Family Get Together. Thanks for sharing your Great Recipes.

  20. Nicholas says:

It looks tasty, but dont you mean “Caramel Grapes”

    1. Amy @Belly Full says:

Nope. I love the name as is. Green grapes, dipped in caramel, coated with nuts…just like a caramel apple. And they taste like one, too!

  21. Mandy says:

These are also amazing with white chocolate in place of the Carmel. We have been making them that way at my house for years! Always a hit!!

  22. Sherry Moon says:

How many carmel squares would you need to compare to a cup of carmel bits, and do you still us the 2 tablespoons of heavy cream for same results

    1. Amy @Belly Full says:

You would measure 1 cups worth. And yes, you’ll still need the cream.

  23. Jill Roberts @ WellnessGeeky says:

Definitely your caramel apple grapes are awesomeness! This is a great recipe Amy – I made it a short while ago and it was lovely, in fact have made it again since. Thanks for sharing!

  24. Sharon says:

Where did you get those toothpicks!? So cute!

    1. Amy @Belly Full says:

At Target! But that was a couple years ago. Not sure if they still carry them.

      1. Karen says:

Can you make the night before or do the peanuts get soggy?

    2. Tams says:

These were simply delicious!!! Thank you for sharing!

    3. Bunny says:

You can find them in the kitchen gadget aisle at WalMart.

    4. Rebecca says:

Go to a party goods store like Party City … they sell fancy long toothpicks

  25. Samantha Campbell says:

Does the caramel get too hard after its all prepared or does it stay soft?

    1. Amy @Belly Full says:

I wouldn’t say “too” hard, but it does harden.

      1. Samantha Campbell says:

Would you say chewy? Iam just asking because I tried something like this before and it was super sticky. Wonder if thats what the cream is for.

  26. Wendy says:

Made these today for a gathering! I used a carton of caramel and warmed it up on the stove. Turned out great! If you rinse grapes before just make sure they are dry. Didn’t have problem at all with caramel not sticking to grapes. I then dipped them in Health bar crumbles! DELISH!! Thanks!

  27. Debbie says:

Should the grapes be room temp or cold from the frig? I wonder if the grapes are cold that is the problem that the carmel is not sticking.

    1. Amy@Belly Full says:

I have made these more times than I can count and have never had a problem with the caramel sticking. I always prep the grapes first (with the toothpicks) before I warm the caramel sauce, so the grapes aren’t cold per se, but I wouldn’t say they’re always room temperature, either. FWIW, I’ve only heard of a few people having issues. If you read through the comment thread, 95% had no problem at all.

  28. Deane says:

Would cookie crumbs or ? work instead of nuts for nut allergies?

    1. Amy@Belly Full says:

      Sure!

  29. Cheryl says:

I’m going to try these with red grapes. Do you think there would be much of a difference? That’s what’s on sale this week.

    1. Christina says:

I also have the same question .. other than the looks, I think they’ll taste the same. Right?

  30. Beth says:

Can I use the Carmel already made in a container?

    1. Amy @Belly Full says:

Not sure if it would set the same. Try it!

  31. Linda says:

Want to try them who makes the best heavy cream

Made these last night for a small New Years get together. I did peanuts, coconut, and sprinkles. The peanuts definitely complimented the caramel the best and really did taste like little caramel apples. So good! They were all amazing though and totally addicting. Everyone loved them!

  33. Caren says:

Made these for a work holiday party and they were the first to go. Wish I would have made more!

  36. Tonya says:

Can you prepare these the night before? Thx!

    1. Amy @Belly Full says:

  40. debra says:

Did you have any problems with the caramel dripping down the grape and not hardening? Mine did and now all of the caramel and nuts are on the waxed paper.

    1. Amy @Very Culinary says:

Nope, I’ve never had that happen. Sorry :/

    2. Tammy says:

Yes i had the same problem and it stuck to the wax paper too..

  41. SImplyOldSchoolCookingReese says:

These look amazing! I love frozen grapes. This recipe would probably be good frozen as well.

  42. laurasmess says:

What a gorgeous snack… perfect for hot days (or any days, for that matter). I love the fact that you’ve combined some healthy fruit with some indulgence also… makes me think that I could justifiably eat these for any meal of the day: Breakfast? Yeah of course, fruit + nuts + dairy is basically the perfect breakfast food! Good on you for doing 21 days without junk food, I am seriously impressed! x

  43. Sandy says:

I so want to make these, I am not familiar with caramel bits, do you mean toffee bits? If not, what isle in the grocery store would they be located??

    1. Amy @Very Culinary says:

Caramel bits are basically little round pieces of caramel, made by KRAFT. I buy mine at Target in the baking section (link attached, so you can see what they look like. ) If you can’t find them, you can use caramel squares, but you’ll need to unwrap them. http://www.target.com/p/kraft-premium-caramel-bits-11-oz/-/A-13302189

  44. Nicole says:

Think I could use almond milk or a heavy cream alternative?

Hi Nicole – I can’t vouch for the results, but you could try it!

  48. sippitysup says:

These are adorable. Perfect in combo with the Coke, because Diet Coke is almost the only junk food I ever eat. Now I am jonesing for one, thanks. PS Good chocolate is not junk food, right? Same with ice cream, right? GREG

  49. Lisa@The Cutting Edge of Ordinary says:

    Those grapes look so good.

Congrats on your challenge. You are a fair better person than I (asterisk’s inlcuded). The no bread thing would have killed me too.
